Job Title: Certified Firewatch / AGT

Job Summary
The Fire Watch / AGT ensures a safe working environment during hot work, confined space, and hazardous activities by monitoring potential fire and gas hazards.
The role involves carrying out gas testing, maintaining constant surveillance, enforcing safety precautions, and acting as the first line of defense in emergencies.
Roles & Responsibilities
Maintain continuous watch in areas where hot work (welding, cutting, grinding, etc.) or high-risk activities are taking place.
Ensure fire extinguishers, fire blankets, and other firefighting equipment are readily available and in working condition.
Monitor sparks, heat, and combustible materials to prevent fire outbreaks.
Stop work immediately if unsafe conditions arise and alert the Supervisor/HSE.
Remain at the worksite for a sufficient period after hot work is completed to detect smoldering fires.
Conduct pre-entry and continuous atmospheric testing in confined spaces and hot work areas.
Use calibrated gas detectors to monitor oxygen levels, flammable gases, and toxic substances.
Record, interpret, and communicate gas test results in line with permit-to-work requirements.
Certify that work areas are safe for entry or hot work before activities commence.
Immediately report unsafe gas levels and stop work when required.
Qualifications & Experience
Minimum of HND /Technical education.
Certified Fire Watch Training (mandatory).
Valid AGT (Authorized Gas Tester) Certification (mandatory).
Minimum 3 - 5 years experience in oil & gas, petrochemical, or construction industries.
Knowledge of fire prevention techniques, hot work permits, and confined space entry.
Familiarity with HSE regulations and international standards (OSHA, NFPA, API, etc).
Safety & Compliance:
Enforce compliance with permit-to-work (PTW) procedures.
Ensure work areas are free from combustible materials or adequately shielded.
Communicate effectively with supervisors, HSE teams, and work crews regarding hazards and controls.
Participate in toolbox talks, drills, and safety briefings.
Support emergency response efforts in case of fire, gas leaks, or accidents.
Key Skills & Competencies:
Strong awareness of fire prevention and emergency procedures.
Proficient in using fire extinguishers, firefighting tools, and gas monitoring devices.
Ability to remain alert and attentive for extended periods.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Physically fit for field/site work (confined spaces, offshore, high temperatures).
