Job Title: External Relations Officer

Position Description
The External Relations Officer is responsible for building and maintaining strategic relationships with external stakeholders, including regulators, government agencies, industry bodies, NGOs, and local communities.
This role supports Tamrose’s advocacy efforts, monitors external developments, and executes communication strategies to enhance the company’s reputation and influence favorable outcomes.
The position collaborates with internal teams to align external relations activities with Tamrose’s operational priorities ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and promoting positive stakeholder engagement in Nigeria’s maritime and oil & gas sector.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to
Stakeholder Engagement & Relationship Management:
Identify and map key external stakeholders, including regulators, policymakers, and community leaders.
Build and nurture relationships through regular meetings, events, and collaborative initiatives. Facilitate dialogue between Tamrose and stakeholders to address concerns and promote mutual interests.
Policy Advocacy & External Monitoring:
Monitor legislative, regulatory, and industry developments affecting Tamrose’s operations.
Support the preparation of advocacy materials, position papers, and submissions to influence policy.
Coordinate participation in industry forums and consultations to represent Tamrose’s interests.
Community & Social Impact Initiatives:
Develop and implement community engagement programs aligned with corporate social responsibility goals.
Collaborate with local communities to identify needs and execute initiatives that enhance Tamrose’s social license to operate.
Track and report on the impact of community projects to ensure sustainability and compliance.
Crisis & Issue Management:
Assist in developing crisis communication plans and responding to external issues affecting Tamrose.
Monitor media and public sentiment to identify potential risks and recommend mitigation strategies. Support internal teams in managing stakeholder communications during incidents or disputes.
Strategic Communication Support:
Contribute to external communication strategies, including press releases, social media, and public reports.
Coordinate with the Corporate Communication Officer to ensure consistent messaging and branding.
Prepare briefing materials for leadership engagements with external parties.
Reporting & Documentation:
Maintain accurate records of stakeholder interactions, advocacy efforts, and community initiatives.
Prepare regular reports on external relations activities and their impact on business objectives.
Key Educational & Professional Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in International Relations, Public Relations, Communications, Political Science, Law, or a related field.
Postgraduate degree in Public Policy, Business Administration, or Communications is an advantage.
Membership in professional bodies such as the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR), or similar is desirable.
Key Experience Requirements
Minimum of 5 - 10years of experience in external relations, stakeholder management, or public affairs, preferably in the oil & gas, maritime, or heavy industries sectors.
Proven track record in building relationships with regulators, government agencies, and community groups in Nigeria.
Experience in policy advocacy, crisis communication, or community development initiatives.
Strong interpersonal and networking skills with the ability to build trust across diverse stakeholders.
Excellent communication and negotiation abilities, both written and verbal.
Proactive problem-solving with a strategic mindset for influencing outcomes.
High ethical standards and cultural sensitivity in a diverse Nigerian context.
Adaptability to dynamic environments and ability to work collaboratively.
