Job Title: WASH Technical Assistant
Locations: Goronyo, Raba, Isa, Sokoto South, Sabon Birni LGAs - Sokoto (100% of the time).

Project / Programme: Integrated emergency response to the displaced population in Zamfara, Sokoto and Katsina States, NW Nigeria BHA (Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance)
Reports to: WASH Construction Engineer
Supervised staff:WASH Sector Lead/Deputy Project Manager
Starting Date: ASAP
Contract duration:5 Months with possible extension. Working Condition: 100% Field-Based
Job Summary
The WASH Technical Assistant is to provide support to the WASH Construction engineer and WASH in all aspects of COOPI WASH Technical programs planning, infrastructures design, implementation, construction supervision, monitoring, and evaluation under the BHA project in Sokoto state.
He/she will assist with the implementation of the support function portfolio according to the plan
Essential Job Functions
Project Implementation and Supervision:
To assist WASH officer in the coordination of the WASH Technical activities according to strategy, proposals, budgets, and plans.
Assist in managing and maintaining the COOPI Water Laboratory and in conducting water quality testing focused on biological parameters, including Coliform Bacteria, E. coli, and Free Residual Chlorine (FRC).
To assist the WASH officer in all aspects of WASH infrastructures design, construction monitoring, quality control, program planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
To assist in the identification of community water and sanitation needs.
To develop technical specifications and bills of quantities (BOQ) for works
To assess the water and sanitation training needs in the IDP camps and communities and assists in the development of appropriate training materials and plans.
Conducts water quality testing and sanitary inspection at water points.
Provides technical assistance to the WASH officer and local counterparts on issues of water and sanitation information and communication strategies.
Assists in the establishment, and training of community-based WASH committees as well as monitoring their performance.
Assists in the compilation of weekly, monthly WASH, and quarterly Technical reports, program documents, , and activities forecast and expenditures.
Involve and inform communities and community leaders about the activities
Assist the WASH Team in Breaking down the annual operational plans into weekly, monthly, and quarterly implementation plans.
He/she will work closely with WASH Assistant Public Health/Hygiene promotion in planning and conducting all WASH field activities as planned.
To assist in ensuring that procurement, development, and distribution of materials and equipment are timely and according to procedures.
Perform any other duties as may be assigned.
Information Management / Reporting:
Provide periodic reports of field site works and challenges to the team lead.
Ensure that all construction/infrastructure data within the staff’s portfolio of sites is well managed and provides an accurate representation of the reality on the ground.
Submit regular reports related to the work progress to the team lead.
Security management responsibilities:
Responsible of the day-to-day security management as it relates to program implementation.
Abide by the security procedures and policies of the organization and report any breaches.
Perform other relevant tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
Preferred Skills and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Geology, Water Resources, Building Technology, or Architecture with rich field experience. A professional license is a plus.
Desired Experience: At least 2 years of relevant work experience in an INGO/NGO. Experience working in the field of Hygiene promotion, WASH in emergencies, especially in IDP camps.
Minimum of two years of experience in field-level construction project management and supervision.
Good experience with effective contractor supervision and contractor performance management, and evaluation, especially in WASH.
Good Knowledge of Nigerian construction standards, codes and regulations.
Proficient in Microsoft Office software applications (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, Access).
Proficiency with AUTOCAD engineering design software application.
Good English language skills (verbal and written)
Willing and able to be based and travel regularly within remote areas, where the network may be limited.
