Job Title: Lead Officer - Business Development
Location: Lagos
Employment Type: Full-time (60% office, 40% remote – minimum 3 days in the office)
Reports To: Managing Partner
Position Summary
The Business Development Lead will be responsible for origination, lead generation, deal closure, and revenue delivery across FHSA’s client base.
This is a heavy revenue-generating role requiring extensive networks and pipelines that FHSA can immediately leverage, while also building new opportunities across donors, implementing partners, private sector corporates, and government agencies.
The ideal candidate must be commercially astute, entrepreneurial, and experienced in closing high-ticket deals while leading a team to consistently achieve ambitious revenue targets.
Responsibilities
Originate and close new business opportunities contributing to FHSA’s annual revenue targets.
Build, maintain, and expand strong relationships with donors, corporates, government agencies, and implementing partners.
Develop strategies for penetrating new markets in West and East Africa.
Lead responses to RFPs, RFQs, and EOIs from international donors, corporates, and government.
Negotiate and secure contracts across different client tiers.
Drive FHSA’s positioning in industry forums, conferences, and government/donor platforms.
Manage and mentor the business development team to exceed growth targets.
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Economics, International Development, or related field.
Master’s Degree (MBA or related advanced Degree) preferred.
8 – 10 years of progressive business development experience, with direct revenue responsibility.
Proven record of securing and managing multi-million-dollar (USD 1M+) deals.
Demonstrated ability to leverage existing professional networks/pipelines to drive immediate revenue.
Proven success in lead generation and origination of new opportunities across diverse client tiers.
Strong experience with donors (e.g., USAID, BMGF, FCDO, GIZ, JSI), philanthropic foundations, corporates, and governments.
Experience in consulting/advisory services within food systems, agriculture, nutrition, health, or climate sectors is a plus.
Leadership experience in managing revenue-driven teams.
