International Medical Corps is a global, humanitarian, nonprofit organization dedicated to saving lives and relieving suffering through health care training and relief and development programs. Established in 1984 by volunteer doctors and Nurses, International Medical Corps is a private, voluntary, nonpolitical, nonsectarian organization. Its mission is to improve the quality of life through health interventions and related activities that build local capacity in under-served communities worldwide.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Volunteer, Trainer - BEC, Nigeria

Location: Nigeria - NG (Primary)
Category: Volunteer / Intern

Background to the Assignment

  • IMC supports integrated programs in 25 countries worldwide, ranging from primary and secondary health care to emergency preparedness and response, to specialized services such as dialysis and trauma care.
  • At the core of these programs is capacity building to improve the quality of services for beneficiaries and build resilience among health care workers, non-health professionals, and the community.
  • As part of these efforts and in line with IMC’s Operational Framework to enhance the impact of our programs, IMC is engaging volunteer instructors from of multiple backgrounds to travel to IMC country missions, temporary programs, and emergency responses to provide clinical or non-clinical training as needed, depending on the context.
  • Locations are identified by the ERU programs and technical teams based on needs, security level/access to health facilities, and non-restrictive visa policies. Volunteer instructors are matched with countries based on their respective aptitudes and country needs.
  • This multifaceted training program incorporates multiple different clinical and facility-based courses and is being delivered as part of International Medical Corps’ emergency preparation capacity-building efforts for country missions. This training has been requested by the IMC Nigeria Country mission to be for the benefit of local staff, partners, and host-government employees, and will be delivered in the fall of 2025.

Purpose of the Assignment

  • The Volunteer Instructor will provide training in the WHO Basic Emergency Care Course (BEC) via didactic training, hands-on training, supportive supervision or any combination of the same, as discussed and agreed to by the instructor and the team, based on need and context.
  • Training will be conducted at partner or MoH facilities, or other locations as determined by the context. 

Deliverables Description
Activity 1: Preparation (remote):

  • Task 1.1: Meet with Course Director to review materials · and assign lectures
  • Task 1.2: Review existing course reports to prepare for course note-taking

Activity 2: Implementation (on-site):

  • Task 2.1: Travel to/from the course site
  • Task 2.2: Prepare classroom materials, supplies and configuration for the course; dry run of lectures and practice of exercises on the preparation day
  • Task 2.3: Facilitate 2 course(s) for up to 30 students and complete all monitoring & evaluation, including pre- and post-test analysis, and daily course documentation (AAR) requirements DUE DATE(S) Oct 1-24, 2025 Oct 25-Nov 8, 2025 expected outcome of this assignment is to improve the skills and knowledge of participants resulting in improved knowledge and skills.

Scope of the Assignment
Preparation (Remote)

  • Meet with Course Director and/or ERU team to prepare for training and support in the design, editing, and contextualization of the training material as needed.
  • Review existing reports and resources on IMC’s experience with the course and its presence, if any, in the country.

Implementation (On-Site):

  • Assist with the setup, maintenance and demobilization of the training space as required.
  • Deliver in-person lectures for participants, facilitate small group sessions, manage hands-on skills stations and ensure that questions from participants are answered.
  • Evaluate participant comprehension and progress and determine competency using pre-defined metrics.
  • Assist in certification remediation opportunities for students not achieve a passing score
  • Participate in monitoring & evaluation activities of all course instructors
  • Complete daily instructor notes and course summary for the course report
  • Enter and analyze monitoring and evaluation data daily
  • Assist in the demobilization of the training space, packing, and inventory of all training supplies and equipment.
  • Support the course director in the completion of the preliminary course report before departing the field

Requirements Essential Desirable
Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Applicable subject matter
  • Completion of the aforementioned course
  • Completion of Instructor training in the aforementioned course.

Experience:

  • Experience in the delivery of selected training in low-resource contexts.
  • Experience serving as a course director for the aforementioned course
  • Experience delivering educational programming in the aforementioned country

Competency:

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions independently
  • Extremely flexible and have the ability to cope with stressful situations and frustrations
  • Excellent decision-making skills
  • Team player and strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Proficient in computer applications, especially with MS Word and MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint ·
