Job Title:Senior Accountant

About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated Senior Accountant to join our finance team. This is a critical role responsible for overseeing core accounting functions, driving financial strategy, and providing key insights to support our rapid growth.
The ideal candidate will be a proactive leader with deep expertise in financial reporting and a proven ability to optimize processes in a dynamic fintech environment.
Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Strategic Analysis: Lead the end-to-end preparation of accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements. Conduct advanced financial analysis to identify trends, forecast future performance, and provide strategic recommendations to senior leadership.
Regulatory Reporting: Lead the Preparation of all Regulatory Reports to CBN, NDIC and ensure Reports are submitted within required timelines monthly.
IFRS 9 Compliance & Impairment Modeling: Lead the implementation and ongoing compliance with IFRS 9 standards, particularly in relation to Expected Credit Loss (ECL) provisioning. Work closely with credit risk and data teams to ensure that loan impairment models reflect appropriate staging, probability of default, loss given default, and exposure at default. Ensure impairment results are accurately posted to the general ledger and reflected in financial reports.
Transaction Processing and Postings: Oversee Payments for different purposes and record Transactions correctly in appropriate General ledger in the Accounting Software used.
Statutory payments: Oversee all Statutory Payments and ensure relevant timelines are maintained monthly.
Bank Reconciliation: Oversee the Preparation of all bank reconciliations Monthly
Transaction Reconciliation & Oversight: Oversee the daily reconciliation of all payment platforms, including NIBSS, MIFOS, Paystack, and other payment gateways. Manage complex reconciliation discrepancies and implement new protocols to ensure accuracy and efficiency at scale.
Audit Management: Lead and manage the external audit process, ensuring timely coordination with auditors and completion ahead of regulatory deadlines.
Tax Management and Compliance: Work with Tax Consultant to ensure Tax Compliance and ensure necessary remittances are made as and when due.
Team Leadership & Mentorship: Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to junior accountants. Foster a culture of excellence and continuous improvement within the finance team.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as a strategic financial partner to a wide range of teams, including Operations, Technology, and Risk. Collaborate closely with C-suite executives to align financial processes with the company’s strategic goals.
Requirements
Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
A professional accounting certification (ACA, ACCA, CPA, ICAN) is a must.
A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in accounting, with at least 2 years in a senior-level role within the fintech or financial services sector.
A proven track record of handling complex financial transactions and leading process improvements. Deep expertise in payment systems, settlement processes, and financial reporting frameworks.
Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to lead projects and mentor team members.
Advanced knowledge of accounting software and financial management tools. Experience with core banking systems like Mifos is highly desirable.
In-depth understanding of IFRS 9 and its practical application in a lending or financial services environment is highly desirable.
Able to prepare financial statements from scratch to present a true and fair view of the company’s performance.
Outstanding interpersonal skills with a collaborative style of working.
