Broadoaks British School is an all-through international school located in the prestigious Maitama district of Abuja, Nigeria. Established in 2016, the school offers education from reception to year 10 (expanding to year 11 in 2025), following the national curriculum for England and Wales, iGCSE, and Cambridge checkpoints. The school also has a dedicated SEN department, and an early years section called Teenee Todd's Day Nursery for children aged 3 months to 4 years, which follows the EYFS curriculum.

Job Purpose
To deliver high-quality teaching and learning in the humanities, developing students’ knowledge of history and geography, critical thinking, and understanding of past events, while fostering curiosity, engagement, and a lifelong love of learning.
The role also involves contributing to curriculum development, mentoring best practices, and supporting the wider academic vision of the school.
Overview of the Role
The Humanities Teacher is responsible for teaching geography and/or history to students across various age ranges and abilities, promoting subject literacy, analytical skills, and global awareness.
The role requires initiative, collaboration, and innovation, with opportunities to contribute to whole-school development and cross-departmental projects.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and Deliver Engaging Lessons: Design and implement well-structured, engaging, and differentiated lessons that cater to diverse learning needs and abilities.
Assess and Monitor Student Progress: Regularly evaluate student learning through formative and summative assessments, providing constructive feedback to support academic growth.
Curriculum Leadership Contribution: Actively contribute to reviewing and developing the humanities curriculum, ensuring alignment with the school’s vision, examination standards, and innovative practices.
Mentorship and Collaboration: Share best practices, mentor colleagues where appropriate, and support cross-departmental and whole-school initiatives.
Extracurricular Engagement: Organise and lead humanities clubs, debates, field trips, or enrichment activities that extend learning beyond the classroom.
Create an Effective Learning Environment: Maintain a safe, inclusive, and stimulating classroom that promotes inquiry, independence, and critical thinking.
Stakeholder Engagement: Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and stakeholders to support student success.
Technology in Teaching: Integrate digital tools to enhance engagement, source analysis, and access to multiple perspectives.
Professional Development: Engage in ongoing CPD, demonstrating commitment to continuous growth and readiness for broader responsibilities.

Lesson Effectiveness & Student Engagement: At least 90% of lessons rated engaging and effective.
Student Progress: At least 75% of students demonstrate measurable academic progress, with 10% exceeding expectations.
Curriculum & Innovation: Contribute a minimum of two curriculum or teaching innovations annually.
Extracurricular Involvement: Lead at least three humanities-related enrichment activities per year with 60% student participation.
Technology Integration: Employ at least three digital or media strategies per term.
Parent & Stakeholder Communication: Achieve 90% positive feedback from parents through structured termly communication.
Requirements
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or TRCN certification.
Degree in History, Geography, or a related subject.
Strong subject knowledge and proven pedagogical skills.
Demonstrated ability to inspire and motivate students across different ages and abilities.
Excellent communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
Experience in curriculum development or leading school initiatives (desirable).
Familiarity with the British curriculum and assessment frameworks (e.g., IGCSE, A-Level).
