The Family Planning (FP) Advisor (Consultant) is responsible for providing technical leadership to ensure accurate, comprehensive, and culturally appropriate FP information is disseminated through social media, helping to improve program reach and inform users and potential users about FP services in alignment with Federal Government of Nigeria FP policy.
Key responsibilities include analyzing social media content and trends to develop effective messaging, collaborating with media and experts to promote accurate FP information, verifying the quality of FP information on digital platforms, and ensuring content aligns with global FP guidelines.
This role is integral to bridging the gap between clinical health knowledge and effective digital communication, ultimately helping to create a supportive online environment for people seeking accurate family planning information and for uptake in family planning services.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Content strategy and development:
Provide technical guidance: Serve as a subject matter expert on family planning and reproductive health. You will advise the social media team on creating medically accurate, evidence-based content for posts, infographics, and other materials.
Advise on content creation: Work with content creators to translate complex family planning topics into accessible, engaging, and youth-friendly social media messages that resonate with the target demographic.
Correct misinformation: Actively monitor online conversations to identify and address myths and misconceptions about contraception and reproductive health. You can develop and promote content that specifically debunks these inaccuracies.
Project Support and oversight function:
Influence project design: Contribute to the overall project strategy by providing input on initiatives, objectives, and target audiences. This ensures that the social media efforts are technically sound and aligned with broader family planning goals.
Capacity building and Strengthening: Provide Technical and quality training to the Faith Affirming Influencers (Content Creators) for accurate creation, editing and dissemination.
Oversee quality control: Collaborate with the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) team to review, analyze, and evaluate the effectiveness of family planning activities on social media, using data to recommend improvements.
Coordinate with internal and external teams: Work with a diverse group of stakeholders, including health service providers and partners, to create and deliver consistent messaging across various channels.
Online Community engagement and ethical considerations:
Promote safe engagement: Develop guidelines and train staff to ensure they engage with the online community respectfully and safely, particularly when discussing sensitive and personal health topics.
Uphold privacy standards: Advise on the ethical collection and use of user data, ensuring that the project adheres to data protection regulations and protects the privacy of individuals seeking information.
Manage ethical risks: Help the team navigate the risks associated with social media, such as potential exposure to vulnerable populations and unintended consequences of information dissemination.
Role Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, Public Health, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
Any additional qualification in gender-related subjects.
Degree or equivalent level of knowledge in development or related field, e.g. family planning, sexual & reproductive health, gender, etc.
Previous experience in family planning projects including working on interfaith projects, or work on social cohesion, or working with Muslim and Christian online communities.
Minimum of 5 years' experience in reproductive health, managing family planning projects, or related fields.
3-5 years experience in a leadership or advisory role.
Successful oversee of Family Planning projects funded by US government or other donors.
Strong knowledge of NGO operations, particularly in reproductive health and family planning.
Familiarity with key national and international implementing, support, and donor organizations in SRH
Worked with a development organisation for 5 years.
Managing budgets and financial systems.
Managing compliance and documentation for donors.
Review of social media contents.
