Job Description
We are seeking a Cost Controller to manage and maintain the corporate and project cost information systems, ensuring accurate tracking of performance against approved budgets, commitments, and actual expenditures.
The successful candidate will play a key role in implementing standardized cost control processes in line with the organization’s Project Delivery Model (PDM), helping to ensure all projects are delivered within approved financial parameters.
Responsibilities
Monitor, analyze, and control project costs across departments by reviewing cost data to identify savings opportunities and implementing corrective actions to keep expenditures within approved budgets—without compromising safety or quality.
Collaborate with Project Managers and departmental leads to prepare and consolidate business budgets, cost estimations, and track actual costs against projections, generating variance reports for insight into cost drivers, trends, and concern areas.
Develop and enforce cost control processes to support contract evaluation, vendor negotiations, cost optimization, and supplier performance reviews ensuring value-for-money while upholding required operational standards.
Maintain accurate documentation of all financial transactions relating to project and departmental expenses to facilitate seamless internal audits, external audits, and real-time access to financial information.
Translate project scope and deliverables into detailed cost breakdowns using client-provided schedule of rates to ensure competitive and profitable pricing during quotations, tendering, and proposal development.
Verify progress statements and coordinate with Engineering/Project teams to ensure timely preparation and submission of Project Status Reports, Value of Work Done (VOWD), and Client Satisfaction Surveys, enabling prompt and accurate project invoicing.
Record all project expenditures and related cost data into the accounting and ERP systems, enabling accurate payment processing and real-time budget variance reporting.
Create and circulate unique cost codes for new projects to all relevant departments for accurate cost allocation and tracking throughout the project lifecycle.
Review all purchase orders (POs), expense claims, and procurement requests for financial compliance and provide informed recommendations to management on approval, deferral, or rejection.
Participate in commercial and project kick-off meetings to gain a thorough understanding of the financial background, timelines, and objectives of the project or business activity.
Communicate reimbursement-related project transactions to the Service Accountant or Finance unit, ensuring all billable items are properly documented and invoiced to clients as per contractual terms.
Qualifications & Experience;
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, with a minimum of Second Class Upper (2:1)
Master’s Degree is an advantage.
Must be ICAN Certified.
5-7 years of experience out of which 3 years would have been in the Oil & Gas Industry.
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail in budget tracking and forecasting.
In-depth knowledge of project cost control methodologies, cost reporting, and variance analysis.
Experience with project accounting and ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, SAGE).
Excellent communication and reporting skills for cost performance updates.
Proficiency in financial modelling and use of advanced Excel functions.
Ability to identify financial risks and support mitigation planning.
Organizational skills for maintaining audit-ready cost documentation.
Understanding of procurement and contract cost implications in project execution
