Job Summary
We are seeking an accomplished Tax Manager to oversee and manage the company’s tax strategy, compliance, and planning activities.
This role will provide expert guidance on direct and indirect tax matters, ensure compliance with statutory obligations, and deliver tax-efficient solutions aligned with business objectives.
The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise in Nigerian tax law, international tax frameworks, and financial reporting, with proven leadership in managing tax operations within a complex business environment.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and manage the organization’s tax strategy to optimize tax efficiency and compliance.
Oversee preparation and submission of accurate and timely tax returns (CIT, VAT, WHT, PAYE, Transfer Pricing, etc.) in compliance with FIRS and State IRS regulations.
Provide expert advisory on tax implications of business transactions, cross-border operations, and investment structures.
Lead tax planning initiatives to support business growth while minimizing tax risk exposure.
Manage tax audits, queries, and disputes with regulatory authorities, ensuring effective resolution.
Ensure accurate tax accounting and reporting under IFRS and applicable accounting standards.
Monitor changes in tax legislation and advise management on potential impacts to operations.
Collaborate with finance, legal, and business units to ensure alignment of tax strategy with overall business objectives.
Build and maintain strong relationships with tax authorities, auditors, and external advisors.
Lead and mentor junior tax/finance staff, building internal tax capability.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related discipline.
Minimum of 8–10 years progressive tax experience, with at least 5 years in a managerial capacity. · Strong technical expertise in Nigerian corporate tax, VAT, WHT, PAYE, Transfer Pricing, and international taxation principles.
Demonstrated ability to manage tax planning, compliance, and advisory within a corporate or Big 4/public accounting environment.
In-depth knowledge of IFRS, tax accounting, and financial reporting standards.
Proven track record of successfully managing tax audits and regulatory engagements.
Advanced proficiency with tax software, ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics), and Microsoft Excel.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at senior levels. · Professional Certifications (highly desirable):
Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) – mandatory or in view.
Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) or ACCA (UK).
CFA charter or MBA (Finance / Accounting) is an added advantage
