Waiters and Waitresses are responsible for delivering excellent dining service by taking orders, serving food and beverages, and ensuring guests enjoy a memorable experience.
They play a vital role in creating awelcoming atmosphere and maintaining the highest standards of hospitality and service in line with the establishment’s brand.
Role Responsibilities
Guest Service and Interaction:
Greet guests warmly and present menus in a professional manner.
Take accurate food and beverage orders and relay them promptly to the kitchen and bar.
Serve meals and drinks efficiently while ensuring correct presentation and quality.
Anticipate guest needs and provide prompt assistance throughout their dining experience.
Dining Area Management:
Set up tables, arrange tableware, and ensure dining areas are clean and ready for service.
Clear and reset tables quickly and efficiently between guests.
Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the dining area at all times.
Food and Beverage Knowledge:
Demonstrate good knowledge of menu items, daily specials, wines, and beverages.
Make recommendations and upsell dishes, desserts, and drinks where appropriate.
Provide information on food preparation, allergens, and ingredients as required.
Customer Satisfaction and Problem Resolution:
Ensure guests have a pleasant dining experience and handle complaints professionally.
Escalate unresolved issues to the Supervisor or Manager.
Collect guest feedback and relay suggestions for improvement.
Teamwork and Coordination:
Work closely with other wait staff, kitchen, and bar teams to ensure smooth service delivery.
Support colleagues during peak service periods to maintain efficiency.
Follow service protocols and comply with restaurant policies.
Cash Handling and Billing:
Present bills accurately and process payments using the restaurant’s POS system.
Handle cash and card transactions with integrity and accountability.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education:
Minimum of SSCE / OND qualification.
Hospitality training or certification is an added advantage.
Experience:
Minimum of 1–2 years’ experience as a waiter/waitress in a restaurant, hotel, or hospitality environment.
Experience in fine dining or luxury service settings is an added advantage.
Skills:
Customer Service and Communication
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a friendly, professional attitude.
Strong ability to engage with guests and anticipate their needs.
Service and Presentation:
Good knowledge of dining etiquette, service procedures, and table settings.
Ability to carry trays, serve multiple dishes, and handle food safely.
Teamwork and Flexibility:
Ability to work effectively in a team and adapt to fast-paced environments.
Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
Problem-Solving and Multitasking:
Ability to remain calm and courteous under pressure.
Strong organizational skills to handle multiple tables and tasks simultaneously.
Numerical and POS Handling:
Basic arithmetic skills for billing and cash handling.
Familiarity with Point of Sale (POS) systems is an advantage.
