The Senior Internal Auditor strives to maximize the resources deployed toward the missions of the company by identifying ways to promote efficient and effective processes.
The officer also seeks to continually improve the productivity of the company work environment by promoting compliant and ethical practices that reinforce the entity’s core values of accountability, customers satisfaction and social responsibility.
The internal auditor assists to provide independent, objective assurance and advisory services designed to add value and improve Mikano’s operations.
He helps the company to accomplish its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, internal control and governance processes.
The senior internal auditoris responsible for leading audit engagements, the scope of the engagements include financial, compliance, operational, information technology, and fraud reviews as well as other special projects, investigations and consulting projects.
The senior auditor may work both independently and within a team through all internal audit phases, from risk assessment to report writing and management consultation, applying experience and sound judgment to identify potential risk and internal control concerns.
The senior auditor supervises other auditors directly assigned to the departmental projects as and when necessary.
He assists in maintaining open and timely communication, provides training and consultation to line staff regarding internal controls and mitigation strategies as needed.
Responsibilities
Audit Planning & Execution:
Lead and coordinate audit assignments from planning to completion.
Assess risks, develop audit programs, and allocate tasks to junior team members.
Ensure audits are conducted in compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and professional standards.
Review & Evaluation:
Review financial statements, accounting records, and internal controls.
Identify weaknesses, risks, or irregularities in financial and operational processes.
Evaluate compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies.
Team Leadership & Supervision:
Supervise, mentor, and guide junior auditors throughout audit engagements.
Review audit workpapers prepared by team members for accuracy and completeness.
Provide training and on-the-job coaching to staff.
Risk & Control Assessment:
Assess internal control systems and make recommendations for improvements.
Identify areas of operational inefficiency, fraud risk, or mismanagement.
Support risk management initiatives by providing assurance on control effectiveness.
Stakeholder Engagement:
Liaise with external auditors, regulators, and other stakeholders when required.
Build strong relationships with management to facilitate cooperation during audits.
Continuous Improvement:
Stay updated on changes in accounting standards, auditing practices, and regulations.
Recommend process improvements for efficiency and compliance.
Contribute to the development of internal audit methodologies and frameworks.
Academic Qualification
First Degree in Accounting, Banking and Finance or social science or any related discipline from a reputable university with at least 7 years experience.
Professional qualification like ICAN, ACA, ACCA, CIA is compulsory.
