Job Description
The Business Development Manager (BDM) is responsible for driving the growth and expansion of the company through new business opportunities, strategic partnerships, and increased market share.
The role involves identifying potential clients, developing business proposals, strengthening customer relationships, and ensuring the achievement of revenue and profitability targets.
The BDM will also play a critical role in planning, developing, and executing business strategies that align with the company’s overall objectives and ensure the company’s competitiveness in the pharmaceutical industry.
Key Responsibilities
The Business Development Manager shall develop and implement strategies to expand the company’s market presence and product reach across various regions. He or she will identify and evaluate potential clients, distributors, institutional buyers, and partnership opportunities.
The role involves preparing business proposals, quotations, and presentations tailored to client needs while ensuring profitability and compliance with company policies.
The BDM will oversee key accounts, maintain strong relationships with existing clients, and ensure excellent after-sales service to build long-term loyalty.
He or she will conduct periodic market and competitor analysis to identify emerging trends, product gaps, and opportunities for diversification or product innovation.
The Manager will collaborate closely with the Production, Quality Assurance, Regulatory, and Finance teams to ensure seamless coordination from product development to market delivery.
The officer is expected to lead and motivate the sales and marketing team to achieve assigned targets, develop regional distribution plans, and manage the performance of field sales representatives.
In addition, the Business Development Manager will monitor sales performance metrics, prepare monthly business reports, and present progress updates to management.
The role also entails representing the company at trade fairs, exhibitions, and professional meetings to promote brand visibility and partnerships.
Required Skills and Competencies:
The ideal candidate must possess excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills. He or she should have strong analytical abilities and a deep understanding of market dynamics and sales forecasting.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, CRM tools, and data-driven decision-making is essential. The candidate must demonstrate leadership qualities, team coordination skills, and the ability to deliver under pressure.
Strong business acumen, creativity in identifying new markets, and a good understanding of regulatory and distribution requirements in the pharmaceutical industry are critical competencies.
Requirements
Educational Qualification:
Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s Degree or Higher National Diploma in Business Administration, Marketing, Economics, Pharmacy, or a related field.
A Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) or related discipline will be an added advantage.
Professional certifications in marketing, business management, or sales strategy are desirable.
Experience:
A minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years of relevant experience in business development, marketing, or sales management is required.
Experience in the pharmaceutical or fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) sector will be a significant advantage.
Proven experience in developing new markets, managing distribution networks, and achieving measurable sales growth is essential.
Other Requirements:
The candidate must possess a high level of integrity, professionalism, and commitment to organizational goals.
He or she should be result-oriented, innovative, and willing to travel extensively within Nigeria and beyond for business engagements.
A valid driver’s license and familiarity with regional markets will be an added advantage.
Remuneration
Remuneration is competitive and commensurate with experience and industry standards.
The package typically includes a monthly salary in the range of N200,000 – N300,000, performance-based incentives, communication and transport allowances, and other statutory benefits.
