Job Title: Senior HSE Coordinator
Location: Office Power Plant, Port Harcourt - Rivers
Status of Service: Rotation (Local)
Division: EP Operations / Exploitation
Reports To: Head of Maintenance (HOM)
Job Purpose
To ensure the health, safety, and environmental well-being of all workers and operations within the Gas Turbine Power Plant.
The Senior HSE Coordinator supports the Head of Maintenance in implementing and monitoring the Company’s HSE standards, policies, and culture, driving continuous improvement in compliance and operational safety.
Key Responsibilities
HSE Leadership and Implementation:
Support the Head of Maintenance in executing HSE standards and objectives in alignment with the COMPANY HSE Management System (One MAESTRO) and relevant referential documents.
Lead initiatives to improve HSE culture, awareness, and compliance across all field operations.
Facilitate safety meetings, toolbox talks, and awareness programs.
Participate in risk assessments, hazard studies (HAZOP, HAZID), and audits to ensure operations are executed safely.
Monitoring, Reporting & Documentation:
Act as focal point for HSE statistics reporting relating to Office Power Plant activities.
Maintain and regularly update the e-POB, SafePass, and HSEPass systems.
Track and report weekly HSE training compliance and performance metrics.
Compile monthly and quarterly HSE performance reports, including KPI monitoring.
Incident Management & Continuous Improvement:
Conduct and support investigations of incidents and near-misses, identify root causes, and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
Follow up on actions from audits, inspections, and incident reports.
Promote REX (Lessons Learned) from incidents, ensuring their effective communication and implementation.
Audits & Compliance:
Facilitate contractor HSE Management System (MS) audits and inspections.
Ensure compliance with local and international safety standards, regulatory codes, and COMPANY policies.
Participate in emergency preparedness and response drills.
Training & Capacity Building:
Identify HSE training needs for staff and contractors; ensure compliance through monitoring and reporting.
Deliver and coordinate HSE induction and awareness sessions for new and existing personnel.
Promote adherence to COMPANY’s 12 Golden Rules.
PPE & Equipment Management:
Coordinate Field Operations inputs to PPE procurement and distribution.
Monitor adequacy and condition of PPE inventory and emergency response equipment.
Safety Culture Promotion:
Champion the development of a proactive HSE culture.
Drive engagement across multicultural teams, ensuring inclusion and cooperation.
Encourage staff participation in safety programs and best practice sharing.
Context & Environment:
Work within a diverse, multi-cultural organization with varying HSE maturity levels.
Support change management initiatives to strengthen compliance and safety culture.
Ensure independent and evidence-based HSE audit opinions are provided to management.
Accountabilities
Ensure compliance with all HSE regulations and internal standards.
Promote continuous improvement of the HSE Management System.
Maintain accurate HSE records, reports, and performance tracking.
Contribute to risk reduction and safe operation of all turbine-related activities.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Petroleum, or Safety).
Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in Oil & Gas (E&P), with at least 5 years in a similar HSE role.
Strong knowledge of safety engineering techniques (HAZOP, PTR, HAZID, and audits).
Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
Proven leadership in fostering a safety-conscious culture in high-risk environments.
