Purpose of the Job
The purpose of the role of Mechanical Engineering Manager is to oversee and lead the mechanical engineering team in the design, development, installation, and maintenance of mechanical systems and equipment within the factory, particularly in relation to packaging lines, utilities, and distillation Plants.
The Mechanical Engineering Manager is responsible for driving innovation, improving operational efficiency, and implementing best practices in mechanical engineering.
Additionally, they collaborate with other departments to support overall business objectives and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, while also fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development within the team.
Principal Accountabilities
Reporting to the Mechanical Manager, overseeing the planning, execution, and completion of mechanical engineering projects, to ensure they meet deadlines, budgets, and quality standards.
Plan and schedule preventive and autonomous maintenance for all machines to minimize downtime and ensure their availability, thereby enhancing operational efficiency and extending equipment lifespan.
Lead daily, weekly, and monthly team meetings to ensure clear communication, align on goals, Track progress, address any issues, and foster a collaborative and motivated team environment.
Maintain an optimal inventory of mechanical spare parts to ensure that bare minimum is kept in stock to meet operational requirements without excess. And improve overall efficiency.
Renew annual maintenance contracts for maintenance of all critical equipment to ensure continued reliability, optimal performance, and to minimize the risk of unexpected breakdowns and associated downtime.
Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance mechanical engineering processes, productivity, and efficiency, driving operational excellence and fostering innovation.
Collaborate with the Manufacturing Excellence Manager to implement and optimize autonomous maintenance practices, ensuring that equipment is maintained efficiently and effectively by the production team to enhance reliability, reduce downtime, and improve Overall operational performance.
Lead, mentor, and develop the mechanical engineering team, ensuring their skills and knowledge are continuously enhanced to meet the evolving demands of the industry and drive innovation.
Ensure accurate documentation and reporting of all mechanical engineering activities, projects, and performance metrics to maintain transparency, facilitate decision-making, and support continuous improvement efforts.

The Mechanical Engineering Manager operates within a framework that aligns engineering initiatives with organizational goals, enforces standard operating procedures (SOPs), manages budgets, ensures regulatory compliance and foster continuous improvement and collaboration.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, they must work within boundaries that include resource constraints, defined scopes of authority, legal and safety compliance, confidentiality, ethical standards, organizational policies and risk management.
Additionally, they manage spare part inventory to ensure operational efficiency and availability.
