In accordance with company processes, responsible for preparing complete cost estimations and tender pricing for Piped Services (Plumbing and Fire Protection) elements, including material, labour, erection equipment, testing/commissioning man-hours, and direct and indirect resources in line with the BOQ, scope of work, project specifications, and relevant standards.
Develops Plumbing and Fire Protection designs for commercial and residential facilities. Conducts site visits, inspections, and surveys to assess piped services needs and provide appropriate design solutions.
Duties and Responsibilities
Meet with clients and project managers to discuss project scope.
Study Invitation to Tender (ITT) documents, including drawings, project specifications, BOQ, scope of work, contract details, and conditions.
Prepare Plumbing and Fire Protection cost estimates, review and evaluate vendors’ quotes, and recommend the best options to clients.
Prepare Piped Services Tender BOQ pricing in line with project specifications, drawings, and other associated tender documents.
Design Plumbing and Fire Protection systems and prepare associated cost estimates for design and build projects in accordance with design briefs, specifications, relevant codes, and standards.
Prepare design briefs and technical reports.
Provide analytical and problem-solving support using engineering skills to improve business and quality processes.
Prepare Plumbing and Fire Protection Bills of Engineering Measurement and Evaluation (BEME) and documentation.
Send inquiries to subcontractors/vendors to obtain competitive quotations.
Collaborate with QA/QC and project teams to establish project execution method statements and reflect them in estimations.
Prepare technical clarifications to clients for discrepancies in tender documents and implement changes after responses.
Participate in pre-tender meetings, site visits, and prepare site visit reports to analyse project scope.
Analyse vendor technical and commercial offers in view of project specifications and standards.
Prepare comparative statements to evaluate and select appropriate vendors and subcontractors.
Collect all vendor technical data sheets, specifications, and drawings to compile technical bid submissions.
Prepare and coordinate post-tender technical and commercial clarifications.
Assist management in post-tender commercial negotiations with clients and vendors to achieve competitive pricing.
Report to the Estimation Manager and/or Technical Director as assigned.
Provide support during project implementation.
Train subordinates and trainee engineers.
Work Experience
Minimum of 5 years post-NYSC experience in Plumbing and Fire Protection design, tender pricing, and estimation.
2–5 years of relevant site experience.
Requirements:
Proficiency in Plumbing software (e.g., Epanet).
Proficiency in Fire Protection software (e.g., Elite).
Strong knowledge of relevant Plumbing and Fire Protection codes and standards (e.g., NFPA, BS).
Strong relationships with Plumbing and Fire Protection OEM representatives/vendors.
Membership of COREN and NSE is an added advantage.
Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit is an added advantage.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications.
Academic Education:
BSc, BTech, or HND (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from a reputable and accredited institution.
