About the Job
A Corporate and Government Relations Manager is responsible for building and maintaining positive relationships with key external stakeholders, including government officials, regulatory bodies, and corporate partners.
This role is vital for shaping public policy, managing corporate reputation, and ensuring the organization's goals align with the external environment.
Responsibilities
Strategic and policy development:
Develop and execute strategies: Create comprehensive corporate and government relations strategies to advance the organization's objectives.
Advocate for interests: Represent and advocate for the company's interests in public policy discussions and during legislative and regulatory changes.
Advise senior management: Provide strategic counsel to senior leadership on government affairs and regulatory matters that may affect business operations.
Monitor developments: Keep track of legislative and regulatory activities at local, state, and federal levels and assess their potential impact on the company.
Relationship management:
Build key relationships: Establish and nurture relationships with government officials, regulators, industry associations, and other external stakeholders.
Coordinate with partners: Work with trade associations and other industry groups on collective advocacy for common interests.
Manage corporate partnerships: For corporate relations, manage key partnerships and identify new opportunities for collaboration.
Communications and reporting:
Prepare documents: Draft policy briefs, position papers, and presentations to effectively communicate the company's stance on key issues.
Act as a spokesperson: Represent the company at public hearings, conferences, and other relevant forums.
Manage communication: Oversee all external communications with clients, partners, and media, ensuring consistency with the company's corporate identity.
Handle crisis management: Develop and execute crisis communications plans in response to negative press or reputational threats.
Report activities: Provide regular reports and updates on government relations and corporate partnership activities.
Compliance and risk management:
Ensure compliance: Monitor regulations to ensure the company's operations adhere to all legal requirements.
Manage permitting: Facilitate and secure necessary permits, licenses, and approvals from government agencies.
Mitigate risk: Proactively identify potential compliance risks and policy issues and develop contingency plans.
Skills and Qualifications
Education: Candidates should possess a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Communications, or a related field is typically required, with a master's often preferred.
Experience: Several years of proven experience in government relations, public affairs, or a related field.
Knowledge: Strong understanding of legislative and regulatory processes, as well as the company's industry.
Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate effectively.
Networking: A strong, verifiable network of contacts within relevant government departments and regulatory bodies.
