Job Title: WASH Assistant

Position Summary
- The WASH Assistant will support the implementation of all Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) activities under the integrated Nutrition and WASH project in Kaga and Konduga LGAs.
- The position focuses on assisting the WASH Officer in community mobilization, supervision of field activities, hygiene promotion, and ensuring proper operation and maintenance of WASH facilities in compliance with donor and CATAI standards.
Key Responsibilities
Program Implementation:
- Support the WASH Officer in the daily implementation of WASH activities, including water facility rehabilitation, construction supervision, and hygiene promotion sessions.
- Conduct community-level awareness campaigns on safe water use, sanitation, menstrual hygiene management (MHM), and disease prevention.
- Ensure regular monitoring and functionality checks of boreholes, hand pumps, and latrines.
- Support in water quality testing, sanitation infrastructure assessment, and community mapping.
- Assist in organizing and training WASH Committees to strengthen community ownership and sustainability.
- Promote inclusion and participation of women, youth, and people with disabilities in WASH activities.
Community Mobilization and Capacity Building:
- Mobilize and sensitize target communities to participate actively in project interventions.
- Support the facilitation of hygiene promotion sessions using participatory approaches (PHAST, CLTS, CHAST).
- Work closely with community volunteers and local artisans to ensure proper maintenance of rehabilitated water and sanitation facilities.
- Report any community concerns or feedback to the WASH Officer for timely response and follow-up.
Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting:
- Collect and document field data, beneficiary lists, and activity reports in line with project reporting templates.
- Support MEAL teams in post-distribution monitoring and feedback collection.
- Submit daily and weekly field updates to the WASH Officer, including progress, challenges, and recommendations.
- Ensure all field activities are properly documented with attendance sheets, photos, and GPS coordinates where necessary.
Coordination and Collaboration:
- Work in close collaboration with the Nutrition, Protection, and MEAL teams to ensure integrated project delivery.
- Participate in team meetings, planning sessions, and training workshops as required.
- Represent CATAI at community and LGA-level WASH meetings when delegated.
- Maintain positive relationships with community leaders, beneficiaries, and local authorities.
Compliance and Logistics:
- Support in preparation of material requests, stock tracking, and distribution of WASH supplies (e.g., hygiene kits, cleaning materials).
- Ensure that all activities are conducted in compliance with CATAI’s safeguarding, accountability, and environmental protection standards.
- Report immediately any observed protection issues or safeguarding concerns to the supervisor.
Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor’s degree or HND/Diploma in Environmental Health, Water Resources, Public Health, or related field.
Experience:
- 1–2 years of experience in implementing WASH activities in humanitarian or development settings.
- Experience in community mobilization, hygiene promotion, and basic water and sanitation facility maintenance.
- Familiarity with humanitarian WASH standards (SPHERE, WHO) is an advantage.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong community engagement and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to collect and manage data accurately.
- Team player with the ability to work independently under minimal supervision.
- Good report writing and problem-solving skills.
- Fluency in English and Hausa required; Kanuri is an added advantage.
