The role of the Field Security Officer is to implement and manage the duty of care of all staff in accordance with CTG's contracts & obligations
Role Objectives
Role Capabilities:
Providing induction security training, security awareness training, and quarterly briefings to all staff in a timely fashion. New staff should be briefed within 48 hours of their start date.
Conducting background checks on all nationals as required.
Reviewing and tracking trip reports (not movement requests).
Providing security advice to consultants for work-related issues.
Advising on all CTG projects, staff and consultants on security incidents via WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram platforms and via email as agreed with Account Managers.
Conducting analysis of concurrent security situations in the region and preparing monthly country-wide security situation reports.
Developing and maintaining relationships with like-minded Security Managers, UNDSS, Security representatives of other UN Agencies, INGOs, NGOs and other law enforcement security organisations in Nigeria.
Maintaining a database of key security contacts and updating it regularly.
Establishing an emergency call-out procedure for each project so CTG can track and react to incidents swiftly.
Deploying to locations to conduct safety and security reconnaissance ahead of consultants, as requested by Account Managers.
Responding to emergencies, conducting investigations, completing incident reports and after-action reports.
Providing security support to Account Managers on issues related to consultants.
Preparing a weekly report each Monday for the Country Manager and Deputy Country Manager outlining the previous week’s work – number and types of ‘request for support’ calls received on duty phone; number of emails received on FSO email; number of meetings attended outside of office; number and type of support provided to CTG managers etc.
Participating in the preparation and operationalization of Country Security Plans, SOPs, etc.
Completing other tasks as directed by the Senior Field Security Officer and Country Manager and his/her delegate.
Duty of Care:
Liaising closely with the CTG Nigeria's security & risk management team to ensure CTG's high standard of duty of care is consistently applied.
Liaising closely with UN security representatives in Maiduguri for IOM, UNICEF and UNDSS, as well as other INGOs and NGOs operating in the region
Ensuring all staff operate in compliance with company policies, procedures, report infractions without delay to the Senior Field Security Officer and keep the Country Manager in cc on all emails.
Project Reporting:
This role reports to the Country Operations Manager.
Key Competencies
Education: University Degree or equivalent qualification in Security Management, International Relations, Risk Management, or a related field.
Experience: At least 5 years of experience in a field security role, preferably in high-risk or conflict zones.
Languages: Fluent in English
Competencies:
Strong knowledge of security protocols, risk assessment, and incident management, including an understanding of local security dynamics and cultural sensitivities in the deployment area.
Ability to conduct security assessments and develop effective mitigation measures.
Ability to prepare detailed reports, provide clear advisories, and liaise effectively with local authorities, staff, and consultants.
Ability to work under pressure and in stressful situations.
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to assess security threats and provide recommendations.
Travel Requirements:
This role requires travel to field locations, including remote or challenging environments.
The role will also require flexibility to work irregular hours and provide support in emergency situations, including weekends and holidays.
