Job Overview
The Project Accountant will play a key role in ensuring sound financial management and reporting across MOWAA’s project and programme portfolio.
This role focuses on project budgeting, accounting, compliance, and donor reporting, ensuring that all funds are managed efficiently and in alignment with both internal policies and funder requirements.
The position works closely with the Finance, Programs, and Development teams to deliver accurate, timely, and transparent financial information that supports effective decision-making and accountability.
KeyResponsibilities
Project Accounting and Budgeting:
Prepare and manage project budgets in collaboration with program leads and project managers.
Maintain accurate financial records for all project-related income and expenditures.
Track project costs against approved budgets, ensuring compliance with funder and institutional requirements.
Support the preparation of donor financial reports, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
Conduct periodic variance analysis and flag potential underspending or overspending for corrective action.
Grant and Donor Financial Management:
Support pre-award budgeting and financial inputs for grant proposals.
Manage post-award financial administration, including fund tracking, cost allocations, and reporting.
Ensure compliance with grant conditions, donor agreements, and relevant financial regulations.
Liaise with funders and auditors on project financial matters and provide supporting documentation as needed.
Financial Reporting and Control:
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual project financial statements and analysis for management.
Maintain proper documentation and audit trails for all project transactions.
Support audits and financial reviews by providing project-specific financial data and reconciliations.
Contribute to continuous improvement of financial processes and internal controls related to project accounting.
Collaboration and Capacity Support:
Work closely with Finance and Program teams to ensure alignment of project delivery and financial management.
Provide guidance to project leads on budget monitoring, eligible cost principles, and financial reporting standards.
Participate in donor compliance and financial training initiatives within MOWAA.
Key Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline (ACA or equivalent certification preferred).
Minimum of 5 years progressive experience in accounting, with strong exposure to project-based financial management.
Demonstrated expertise in budgeting and financial reporting.
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks) and advanced Excel skills.
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet tight deadlines
Strong integrity and attention to detail.
Solution-oriented, proactive, and comfortable in a fast-paced environment.
Collaborative mindset with the ability to work across diverse teams and stakeholders.
