The Head of People & Culture (P&C) is a strategic and visionary leadership role responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive human resources and culture strategy that aligns withMicrofinance Bank's mission of "Providing Value-Driven and Accessible Financial Services ThroughInnovation" and its core value of "People First."
This leader will be critical in nurturing a high-performance, inclusive, and ethical work environment across the organisation's extensive national network (over 500 branches) to ensure it attracts, develops, engages, and retains the talent required to drive financial inclusion and economic resilience for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and low-income households.
Duties & Responsibilities
Strategic People & Culture Leadership:
Develop, articulate, and execute the bank's People & Culture strategy, ensuring it is a direct enabler of MfB’s overall business goals, social mission, and commitment to sustainability.
Serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO and Senior Management Team on all matters related to organizational effectiveness, workforce planning, change management, and cultural development.
Monitor, analyze, and report on key P&C metrics (e.g., turnover, engagement, training ROI) to drive data-informed decision-making and continuous improvement.
Talent Acquisition and Workforce Planning:
Design and implement a robust talent acquisition strategy to attract high-caliber professionals, particularly for roles supporting the bank's widespread financial inclusion and digital banking initiatives.
Develop strategic workforce and succession planning processes to ensure key positions have identified talent pipelines, mitigating operational risk in a large, multi-branch network.
Oversee the effective design and consistent delivery of comprehensive onboarding and induction programs that clearly embed the organisation mission, vision, and core values.
Performance, Learning and Development:
Champion a high-performance culture by designing and managing a fair, objective, and transparent performance management system (including goal setting, continuous feedback, and performance reviews).
Develop and manage comprehensive learning and development strategies, with a focus on leadership development, microfinance best practices, digital literacy, and customer-centric skills for all staff.
Ensure technical competence and continuous professional growth, particularly for staff operating across the diverse states and digital platforms of the bank.
Culture, Engagement, and Employee Relation:
Actively foster a positive, inclusive, and safe work culture that reinforces the organisation's core values:People First, Integrity, Commitment to Sustainability, Excellence, Passion & Commitment, Enterprise & Teamwork and Fun & Excitement.
Design and lead employee engagement initiatives, including regular internal communications, surveys, and recognition programs to enhance staff morale and job satisfaction across all branches.
Effectively manage complex employee relations issues, grievances, and disciplinary matters, ensuring fairness, consistency, and compliance with Nigerian labor laws.
Compensation, Benefita and HR Administration:
Develop and administer a competitive and equitable total rewards strategy (compensation, benefits, and incentives) that is regularly benchmarked to attract and retain top talent in the financial sector.
Ensure meticulous maintenance of all employee records and HR data, leveraging the HR Information System (HRIS) to improve efficiency and accuracy.
Guarantee continuous compliance with all relevant labour laws, CBN regulations, and the bank's internal policies, including those related to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles.
Other duties as assigned by the Management.
Requirements
A Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration,Psychology, or a related field. A Master's degree (e.g., MBA, MSc in HR/Management) and/ora relevant professional HR certification (e.g., CIPM, SHRM-SCP, SPHRi) is highly desirable.
Minimum of 10 years of progressive Human Resources experience, with at least 5years in a senior leadership role (Head of HR/P&C, Director level) within the Microfinance orFinancial Services sector in Nigeria.
Knowledge / Skills / Competencies:
Proven track record indeveloping and executingHR strategies across alarge, decentralized, andmulti-branch network.
