Job Summary
ALIMA is seeking a qualified Laboratory Manager to oversee all laboratory operations under the INTEGRATE Project at Federal Medical Center, Owo (FMCO).
The role ensures compliance with NCDC protocols, maintains high-quality laboratory standards, and strengthens collaboration between ALIMA, FMCO, and research partners.
Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Operations and Team Management:
Supervise and coordinate the VHF laboratory team to ensure quality, accuracy, and timely reporting.
Manage work schedules, training, and performance of laboratory staff.
Ensure laboratory functionality seven days a week during peak periods.
Oversee weekly and monthly data entry, reporting, and inventory control.
Routine Laboratory Activities:
Supervise hematology, biochemistry, serology, and cross-matching analyses.
Enforce good laboratory practices and biosafety standards.
Ensure maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment.
Coordinate with logistics for the timely supply of reagents and PPE.
Lassa RT-PCR Testing:
Supervise daily PCR runs and ensure the quality and prompt communication of results.
Monitor reagent stock levels and prevent shortages.
Biobank Management:
Co-manage the Lassa biobank and ensure proper cold chain monitoring.
Handle administrative formalities with regulatory bodies for biobank registration and material transfer agreements.
Research Collaboration:
Strengthen partnerships with FMCO, BNITM, and other research collaborators.
Ensure adherence to laboratory research protocols and SOPs.
Participate in coordination meetings and share technical reports.
Cross-Project Support:
Provide laboratory support to other ALIMA missions in Nigeria when required.
Represent ALIMA in relevant meetings with FMCO, NCDC, and partner organizations.
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Science.
Registered with the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN).
At least 4 years of progressively responsible laboratory experience, including experience in team supervision and laboratory management.
Proven experience in PCR techniques and blood processing.
Previous experience in Lassa Fever, Ebola, or other Viral Hemorrhagic Fever responses is a strong asset.
Experience working with international medical NGOs is desirable.
Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and database tools.
Excellent organization, communication, and leadership skills.
Ability to work effectively in multicultural teams under pressure.
Fluency in English required; knowledge of Yoruba is an added advantage.
