Protection without Borders (POWIB) - Established in 2019, Protection without Borders league (POWIB) is an independent youth-led non-governmental organization which operates by principle of non-discrimination, transparency in rendering specialized services, responses and assistance to individuals and families in need. POWIB provide services and assistance in the areas of Child Protection, Health, Education, Gender Based Violence (GBV), Counter-trafficking, Countering Violence Extremism (CVE), Capacity Building of CBOs and CSOs, peacebuilding, data collection and analysis, humanitarian and development research and analysis. Response is delivered due to the negative impact of conflict in affected communities while paying specific attention to the most vulnerable among the affected populace.
The Nutrition Assistant will support the implementation of nutrition activities at the community and facility levels.
This role involves assisting in the delivery of community-based management of acute malnutrition (CMAM), infant and young child feeding (IYCF), and nutrition education sessions, ensuring that nutrition interventions are effectively coordinated, timely, and meet the quality standards of POWIB and its partners.
Key Responsibilities
Program Implementation:
Support the implementation of CMAM activities, including screening, admission, follow-up, and discharge of children with acute malnutrition.
Facilitate IYCF sessions and promote optimal feeding practices for infants, young children, and pregnant and lactating women.
Assist in organizing and conducting community sensitization, awareness campaigns, and nutrition education sessions.
Ensure timely collection and reporting of data from OTP and IYCF sites in accordance with program standards.
Community Engagement:
Work closely with community volunteers and local leaders to mobilize beneficiaries for nutrition activities.
Identify and refer malnourished children and vulnerable cases to appropriate services following established referral pathways.
Support home visits and follow-up of discharged beneficiaries to ensure continuity of care and reduce relapse rates.
Monitoring and Reporting:
Maintain accurate records of beneficiaries and ensure that nutrition registers, attendance sheets, and stock cards are properly updated.
Collect and submit data for weekly and monthly reports in coordination with the Nutrition Officer.
Assist in monitoring stock levels of nutrition supplies and support in requesting replenishment when necessary.
Coordination and Teamwork:
Work collaboratively with health facility staff, community volunteers, and other sectors (Protection, WASH, etc.) to ensure integrated service delivery.
Participate in team meetings, capacity-building sessions, and joint field visits as required.
Support the Nutrition Officer in coordinating field logistics and ensuring smooth implementation of activities.
Qualifications and Core Skills
Minimum of Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, Public Health, Nursing, or a related field.
At least 2-4 years of relevant experience in nutrition programming, preferably in a humanitarian or community development setting.
Practical knowledge of CMAM and IYCF approaches is an asset.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with communities.
Basic data collection, monitoring, and reporting skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team under pressure.
Fluency in English and local languages spoken in the area of implementation is desirable.
