Protection without Borders (POWIB) - Established in 2019, Protection without Borders league (POWIB) is an independent youth-led non-governmental organization which operates by principle of non-discrimination, transparency in rendering specialized services, responses and assistance to individuals and families in need. POWIB provide services and assistance in the areas of Child Protection, Health, Education, Gender Based Violence (GBV), Counter-trafficking, Countering Violence Extremism (CVE), Capacity Building of CBOs and CSOs, peacebuilding, data collection and analysis, humanitarian and development research and analysis. Response is delivered due to the negative impact of conflict in affected communities while paying specific attention to the most vulnerable among the affected populace.
POWIB is seeking a qualified and dynamic Nutrition Advisor to provide technical leadership, oversight, and guidance in the design, implementation, and monitoring of nutrition programs.
The role will focus on improving the quality of nutrition interventions, ensuring compliance with national and international standards, and supporting field teams to deliver effective, evidence-based nutrition services.
The Nutrition Advisor will serve as the organization’s technical lead on nutritionrelated activities, working closely with project managers, M&E, and program staff to ensure effective coordination and integration across projects and donor portfolios.
Key Responsibilities
Program Design and Technical Leadership:
Provide overall strategic direction, leadership, and technical guidance for all nutrition-related programming across POWIB’s projects, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission and humanitarian standards.
Lead the design and development of nutrition project proposals, including logical frameworks, work plans, and budgets that meet donor and national requirements.
Ensure the integration of nutrition-sensitive and nutrition-specific interventions within other sectors (Health, Protection, WASH, and Livelihoods) to achieve holistic community outcomes.
Review and update nutrition technical strategies, SOPs, and operational guidelines to ensure quality implementation and accountability.
Implementation and Quality Assurance:
Oversee the rollout of nutrition interventions such as Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM), Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF), Maternal Nutrition, and Micronutrient Supplementation.
Provide continuous technical supervision, on-the-job coaching, and mentorship to field nutrition staff to strengthen program quality and consistency.
Conduct regular field visits to assess progress, verify data accuracy, and provide technical support to resolve implementation bottlenecks.
Ensure that all nutrition activities adhere to Sphere Standards, WHO protocols, and National Nutrition Guidelines.
Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting:
Work closely with the M&E unit to develop nutrition performance indicators, monitoring tools, and data collection methodologies for routine tracking.
Lead data quality checks and ensure that all nutrition data is timely, accurate, and used for evidence-based decision-making.
Contribute to the preparation of high-quality donor and internal reports, highlighting key outcomes, challenges, and lessons learned.
Promote adaptive management by analyzing nutrition data trends and recommending timely course corrections. Capacity Building and Mentorship
Design and deliver capacity-building sessions for POWIB nutrition staff, community volunteers, and partner organizations on nutrition standards and approaches.
Develop training manuals, IEC materials, and other resources to strengthen knowledge sharing across project sites.
Build the capacity of local stakeholders, including government health workers, to sustain nutrition service delivery beyond project life cycles.
Coordination, Advocacy, and Partnership Management:
Represent POWIB in Nutrition Cluster, Health Cluster, and Food Security Working Group meetings at both state and national levels.
Build strong collaborative relationships with government bodies, UN agencies, and other NGOs to harmonize nutrition programming.
Engage in policy dialogue and advocacy initiatives to strengthen nutrition systems and improve funding for community-based interventions.
Ensure effective donor communication, visibility, and compliance with reporting and branding requirements.
Resource Management and Compliance:
Support program and finance teams in preparing detailed nutrition activity budgets and forecasts to ensure efficient use of resources.
Oversee the procurement planning of nutrition commodities, therapeutic foods, and anthropometric equipment in compliance with donor and internal procedures.
Ensure that all nutrition activities comply with donor rules, ethical standards, and POWIB’s operational policies.
Contribute to internal audits, after-action reviews, and evaluation processes to ensure continuous learning and accountability.
Research, Learning, and Innovation:
Promote operational research and documentation of best practices in nutrition to inform program design and advocacy.
Facilitate knowledge exchange and dissemination of success stories, case studies, and lessons learned across teams and partners.
Stay up to date with emerging trends and innovations in nutrition programming, adapting them to the local context.
Requirements / Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition, Public Health, Dietetics, Food Science, or related field (Master’s Degree preferred).
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in nutrition program management and technical advisory roles within humanitarian or development contexts.
Strong understanding of national nutrition policies, CMAM, and IYCF frameworks.
Proven experience in developing proposals, budgets, and donor reports (UNICEF, NHF, WFP, FCDO, USAID, etc.).
Demonstrated skills in capacity building, technical training, and team supervision.
Excellent communication, analytical, and report-writing skills.
Proficiency in MS Office and nutrition information systems (DHIS2, KoBo, etc.).
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a culturally diverse team.
