ICEED has led some of the most important clean energy and climate change activities including the development and promotion of the Bill to Establish the National Climate Change Commission; leading the development of the Greenhouse Gas Emission Inventory for Nigeria and writing the Federal Government of Nigeria's Renewable Energy Master Plan. We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Research and Policy Analyst (Early Career Programme)
Location: Abuja, Nigeria (with possible field travel).
Duration: 12 months (renewable based on performance and availability of funds).
Engagement Type: Full-time, early career placement with mentorship and professional development opportunities.
Background
The International Centre for Energy, Environment & Development (ICEED) works to promote sustainable energy access, climate resilience, and inclusive development in Nigeria and across Africa. ICEED implements a range of initiatives focused on clean energy transitions, climate finance readiness, just transition, gender and social inclusion, and evidence-based policy advocacy.
To strengthen its research and analytical capacity, ICEED seeks to engage early career professionals with backgrounds in Economics, Sociology, Development Studies, or related disciplines who are passionate about development, energy, environment, and climate change.
The successful candidates will support data collection and analysis, policy research, technical writing, and programme documentation under the guidance of senior experts.
Objective of the Assignment
To provide technical and analytical support to ICEED’s ongoing and emerging programmes through research, data analysis, and policy documentation, while building the professional capacity of young analysts in the energy and climate field.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Research and Policy Analyst will:
Research and Analysis:
Support desk reviews, field data collection, and analysis for studies on energy access, climate finance, and socio-economic transitions.
Conduct literature reviews and synthesize findings into concise technical briefs and background papers.
Assist in quantitative and qualitative data analysis using tools such as Excel, STATA, SPSS, or R.
Technical Writing and Documentation:
Draft sections of project reports, concept notes, and policy briefs under supervision.
Contribute to knowledge products such as working papers, newsletters, and blogs.
Assist in editing and formatting technical documents, ensuring clarity, consistency, and alignment with donor standards.
Programme and Project Support:
Support monitoring and evaluation (M&E) activities, including data entry, indicator tracking, and visualization.
Provide technical assistance in stakeholder mapping and baseline data analysis.
Contribute to event planning, workshops, and stakeholder engagements, including preparation of presentations and meeting reports.
Knowledge Management and Learning:
Assist in maintaining research databases and documentation archives.
Participate in internal learning sessions, training, and mentorship activities.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of ICEED’s analytical tools and methodologies.
Qualifications and Experience
Education:
Master’s Degree in Economics, Sociology, Statistics, Development Studies, Public Policy, or related Social Science fields.
Experience:
At least one year of relevant work experience in research, data analysis, policy development, or programme implementation.
Experience with report writing, data visualization, and research methods.
Familiarity with Nigeria’s development landscape, energy, environment, or climate change policy context is a requirement.
Skills and Competencies:
Strong analytical and quantitative research skills.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); experience with data analysis software (e.g., STATA, SPSS, or R) is desirable.
Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex information into clear, actionable insights.
Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment.
Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management skills.
Reporting and Supervision:
The Research and Policy Analyst will report to ICEED’s Head of Research and Policy and work closely with thematic leads across energy, environment, and climate finance portfolios.
