Job Title: Pastoralist Manager
Location: Nigeria

Job Purpose
To coordinate and manage all pastoralist engagement, livestock development, and buy-back operations within assigned regions.
The Pastoralist Manager serves as the operational lead, ensuring effective implementation of pastoralist support programs, fodder distribution, and livestock sourcing while maintaining strong community relations.
The role bridges strategy and field execution, supporting the Head, Pastoralist Market Development in achieving sustainable supply chain growth and pastoralist satisfaction.
Roles and Responsibilities
Regional Operations & Supervision:
Oversee day-to-day operations of pastoralist engagement across multiple regions.
Supervise and guide Area FSRs and FSRs to ensure quality program delivery and consistent field presence.
Ensure effective coverage, planning, and execution of livestock mobilization, feed sales, and farmer support activities.
Monitor key performance indicators and ensure targets are met for livestock supply, fodder sales, and farmer satisfaction.
Pastoralist Relationship Management:
Build and sustain trust-based relationships with pastoralist leaders, cooperative groups, and key influencers.
Conduct regional sensitization, partnership, and stakeholder meetings to strengthen collaboration.
Serve as a regional representative for the company in community and stakeholder forums.
Livestock Procurement & Buy-Back Oversight:
Coordinate the aggregation and quality assessment of livestock for buy-back programs.
Ensure adherence to animal health and welfare standards during sourcing, holding, and transport.
Work with logistics teams to ensure seamless movement of animals to processing or holding facilities.
Fodder (Feed/Grass) Sales & Distribution Management:
Drive the planning, supply, and sales of fodder and livestock feed across assigned zones.
Track inventory, demand trends, and pricing to ensure affordability and profitability.
Promote awareness of feed benefits and proper usage to improve animal productivity.
Training, Extension & Farmer Development:
Plan and oversee training programs on animal husbandry, feeding, and health management.
Collaborate with veterinary and technical teams to deliver extension services effectively.
Evaluate training outcomes and recommend improvements to enhance adoption rates.
Data Management & Reporting:
Consolidate reports from AFSRs and FSRs on livestock sourced, fodder sold, and farmer engagement activities.
Analyze trends in farmer participation, satisfaction, and livestock quality.
Submit monthly regional performance reports and recommendations to the Head, Pastoralist Market Development.
Conflict Resolution & Risk Management:
Mediate disputes related to pricing, supply agreements, or distribution.
Monitor and report emerging risks, including disease outbreaks, climate-related disruptions, or community tensions.
Develop preventive action plans and mitigation strategies.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Volume and quality of livestock sourced from pastoralists
Regional fodder/feed sales and farmer satisfaction rates
Number of active pastoralist households engaged
Timeliness and accuracy of reports submitted
Efficiency and performance of AFSR/FSR teams
Reduction in operational conflicts and complaints
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science, Agricultural Extension, Livestock Production, or related discipline
Minimum of 5–8 years of experience in livestock management, pastoralist engagement, or agribusiness operations
Demonstrated experience managing field teams or rural community projects
Fluency in Hausa and/or Fulfulde is a strong advantage
Familiarity with livestock feed, fodder production, or rural value chains preferred
Skills and Competencies:
