To support and strengthen the relationship between the company and pastoralist farmers by providing frontline extension services, facilitating livestock support programs, monitoring buy-back activities, and ensuring farmer satisfaction.
The FSR serves as the company’s representative at the grassroots level, ensuring that pastoralists receive consistent guidance, training, and access to resources that enhance livestock productivity and income.
Roles and Responsibilities
Relationship Management & Community Support:
Engage directly with pastoralist farmers within assigned communities to build trust and maintain strong relationships.
Act as the first point of contact for pastoralists, addressing inquiries and providing timely feedback.
Support awareness and sensitization programs on company initiatives and livestock development projects.
Livestock & Buy-Back Operations:
Assist in identifying, monitoring, and preparing animals for buy-back in collaboration with Area FSRs.
Conduct preliminary quality checks on animals and facilitate smooth logistics during collection.
Monitor animal health and promptly report disease cases or risks.
Fodder (Feed/Grass) Sales and Distribution:
Promote company feed and fodder sales to pastoralists.
Gather data on feed demand, assist with delivery arrangements, and ensure proper record keeping.
Educate farmers on feed utilization and the benefits of proper nutrition.
Training & Farmer Support:
Mobilize pastoralists for training and sensitization sessions.
Deliver basic instruction on animal care, disease prevention, and improved husbandry practices.
Encourage adoption of modern livestock management techniques.
Data Collection & Reporting:
Keep accurate field records of pastoralist engagement, livestock numbers, feed sales, and feedback.
Submit weekly field activity reports to the Area FSR.
Conflict Resolution
Identify early signs of disputes or challenges in the field and escalate promptly to the Area FSR.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Number of active pastoralist farmers engaged
Volume and quality of livestock mobilized for buy-back
Quantity of feed/fodder sold within coverage area
Farmer satisfaction and retention rate
Timeliness and completeness of reports submitted
Qualifications and Experience
HND / B.Sc. in Animal Health, Agricultural Extension, or related field
1 - 3 years of experience in livestock extension or community engagement
Experience working with rural or nomadic communities preferred
Ability to communicate effectively in Hausa and/or Fulfulde
Skills and Competencies:
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Basic understanding of livestock care and feeding practices
Cultural awareness and patience in working with traditional communities
Good record keeping and reporting ability
Self-motivated and able to work independently in remote areas
