Job Title: Diving Project Engineer
Locations: Lagos and Rivers

Position Summary
The Diving Project Engineer to oversee technically challenging diving projects from concept through commissioning and execution.
The role holder will integrate marine engineering, diving safety, and project management to ensure technical excellence, schedule adherence, and cost control.
This role requires hands-on field presence, strong collaboration with clients and subcontractors, and a commitment to safe, compliant, and environmentally responsible operations.
Key Responsibilities
Lead Technical Delivery
Develop, review, and approve dive plans, risk assessments, method statements, and HSE plans in line with international standards (e.g., IMCA, EN 13363, NFPA 1986/2008, OSHA, where applicable).
Engineer diving systems and support infrastructure (decompression facilities, hyperbaric chambers, umbilicals, umbilical termination boxes, diving bells, etc.) for assigned projects.
Perform technical calculations (e.g., air/mixed gas quantities, gas management, decompression schedules, buoyancy, stabilization, lift calculations) and ensure compliance with project specifications.
Project Management and Coordination:
Develop project scopes, schedules, resource plans, and budgets; track progress and forecast variances.
Interface with clients, naval architects, marine engineers, ROV/ROV AUV teams, vessel crews, and subcontractors to ensure seamless execution.
Prepare and issue technical documentation, procedures, drawings, and as-built records; manage document control and change orders.
Safety, Quality, and Compliance:
Champion a strong safety culture; ensure diving operations comply with relevant standards and regulatory requirements.
Conduct, or oversee, dive team briefings, toolbox talks, and pre-dive checks; investigate incidents and implement corrective actions.
Implement quality assurance processes for engineering deliverables and field operations.
Engineering Analysis and Innovation:
Analyze site conditions (survey data, tides, currents, seabed assessments) to optimize dive plans and logistics.
Evaluate and recommend equipment, tools, and procedures to improve efficiency, safety, and environmental performance.
Support development of new services, equipment procurement, and technology integration (e.g., hybrid air/oxygen systems, saturation diving concepts, or remotely operated systems as project demands).
Field Support and Commissioning:
Provide on-site technical leadership during mobilizations, dives, and commissioning activities.
Collaborate with vessel masters, diving supervisors, RMs, and task leads to ensure tasks are executed to standard.
Reporting and Continuous Improvement:
Produce technical reports, risk registers, change notices, and close-out documentation.
Capture lessons learned and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, Offshore Engineering, Ocean Engineering, or a closely related field. An advanced degree or professional engineer (PE) certification is a plus.
Experience: Minimum 10 years in offshore/diving operations, underwater construction, or equivalent engineering roles with hands-on field exposure. Experience with saturation/diving support systems preferred.
Certifications:
Diver certification appropriate to the region (e.g., commercial diving, saturation diving, or equivalent).
IMCA or equivalent international standards familiarity.
OSHA/Local safety training as applicable; HSE competency.
ROV/Marine electrical or mechanical certification is a plus

Reporting To: GM Technical (Project Manager, Diving Operations)
Direct Reports: Technical Team, Operations Team, and Logistics Team
Internal: All Departments
External: Regulatory bodies and government agencies, Marine contractors and service providers, Port authorities and maritime organization, Classification societies and inspection bodies, NIMASA, Community and environmental groups
Technical Skills:
Strong knowledge of diving operations, hyperbaric systems, life support, gas management, and decompression theory.
Proficiency with marine drawings and engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD/Inventor, SolidWorks; finite element analysis is a plus).
Ability to perform risk assessments, quantitative risk analysis, and quantitative de-rating as needed.
Experience with marine logistics, vessel operations, and offshore supply chain coordination.
Project Management:
Solid understanding of project lifecycle, budgeting, scheduling (MS Project, Primavera, or equivalent), and change management.
Strong communication and leadership skills; ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and interface with clients and regulators.

Willingness to travel offshore and to remote locations as project demands.
Physical and Travel Requirements:
Ability to work in marine environments; field-based activities may include offshore deployments, cramped spaces, and outdoor conditions.
Travel to client sites, vessel deployments, and regional/international locations as project needs require.
