Job Description
The Facility Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the hospital's physical environment and facility, ensuring a safe, efficient, and compliant setting for patients, staff, and visitors.
This pivotal role is critical to supporting the delivery of high-quality patient care.
Responsibilities
Maintenance and Operations Management:
Develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive preventive, predictive, and reactive maintenance programs for all hospital infrastructure, buildings, grounds, and critical systems (e.g., HVAC, electrical, plumbing, medical gas, fire safety).
Ensure the continuous and reliable operation of essential utilities and emergency power systems.
Manage day-to-day facility operations, including internal repairs, cleanliness, housekeeping, and general upkeep of patient care areas, offices, and common spaces.
Oversee the management of non-medical equipment (e.g., elevators, refrigeration units, kitchen equipment).
Safety, Compliance, and Risk Management:
Ensure the hospital is in continuous compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations, as well as accreditation standards.
Develop, manage, and enforce all life safety, fire safety, and security programs and policies.
Conduct regular facility inspections, safety audits, and risk assessments to identify and promptly address potential hazards.
Oversee the management and disposal of hazardous and medical waste in accordance with strict regulatory guidelines.
Manage security protocols, access controls, and surveillance systems to protect occupants and assets.
Environmental and Quality of Care:
Maintain a safe, comfortable, and sterile Environment of Care (EoC) that directly supports clinical operations and patient well-being.
Ensure high standards of cleanliness, infection control, and orderliness across the facility, coordinating closely with Infection Control and Clinical leadership.
Implement sustainability initiatives, focusing on energy conservation, water management, and reduced environmental impact.
Project and Capital Management:
Manage and oversee construction, renovation, and major facility upgrade projects, ensuring adherence to scope, budget, schedule, and all healthcare building codes.
Coordinate internal resources and external contractors for project completion, minimizing disruption to patient care.
Contribute to the development of the annual capital expenditure budget for facilities-related improvements and asset replacement.
Financial and Vendor Management:
Prepare, monitor, and manage the facility department's operating and capital budgets, identifying cost-saving opportunities and ensuring cost-effective operations.
Select, negotiate, and manage contracts and service agreements with external vendors and contractors, ensuring quality, value, and timely service delivery.
Leadership and Team Management:
Lead, mentor, and supervise the facility management team, including technicians, maintenance staff, and environmental services personnel.
Coordinate and collaborate effectively with clinical, administrative, and departmental leaders to understand and meet their facility needs.
Develop and implement training programs for staff on safety procedures, equipment operation, and facility protocols.
Qualifications Required
B.Sc / B.Tech / HND in Engineering and other related disciplines
At least 3 - 4 years of experience as a Facility Manager in a similar Industry.
