Job Description
The aim of the technical assistance is to evaluate the experiences and perspectives of caregivers, community mobilizers and relevant stakeholders on PMC community dialogue intervention and gain in-depth understanding of lessons learnt to inform scale up of PMC SBCC intervention.
Scope of assignment
The Most Significant Change methodology will be used for the SBCC evaluation. The following activities will be carried out:
Development of a qualitative research protocol including the preparation of MSC participatory data collection tools.
Collection of data using focus group discussion with selected groups of people in selected LGAs
FGDs will be conducted with caregivers of children less than two years, health workers, men, WDCs and community mobilizers. Caregivers and health facility staff will be recruited from intervention facilities on scheduled recruitment days, caregivers of eligible children will be invited to take part in a FGD on a named date in an accessible, private location.
Groups will be purposely sampled to represent a range of implementation and socio-demographic states (including intervention coverage, age, gender, and staff type). A minimum of four FGDs will be conducted per day. Overall, a minimum of 16 FGDs will be conducted. The study will aim to include 8-10 participants per FGDs.
Transcription of focus group discussions
Analysis of findings on the cognitive, emotional, and environmental factors that drive behaviour change
Analysis of the target audience needs and behaviour on PMC and Immunization.
Preparation of draft and final report based on feedback from Malaria Consortium and the NMCP.

Responsibilities:
Coordinate the overall tasks
Develop plan with detailed timeline
Develop power point presentation slides for training of research assistants.
Draft manuscript on SBCC evaluation
Develop protocol and tools using most significant change methodology
Facilitate one day training for the data collectors
Supervise data collection process (including spot-checks, audio monitoring and verifying transcriptions)
Conduct data analysis and develop detailed draft report of findings
Submit final draft reportwithin 5 days of receiving feedback from project team
Draft and submit consultancy report
Deliverables for National Consultant:
Draft Protocol including data collection tools
Draft data analysis plan
He or She must deliver all activity deliverables within contract time frame.
Develop training materials for data collectors.
Coded data sets
Submit final SBCC evaluation report with recommendations
Qualifications and experience for National Consultant
Essential:
MPH or MSc in Public Health, Sociology, Anthropology, Social Work or relevant societal science field with experience implementing research in Nigeria or similar developing country
At least 7 years’ experience conducting and supervising qualitative study and use of qualitative data analysis tools
Demonstrated expertise in community entry and mobilization techniques, particularly in southern Nigeria.
Skilled in quality assurance procedures, including spot-checks, audio monitoring and verifying transcriptions
Proven expertise in analysis and reporting of finding of qualitative study in Nigeria or similar developing country context
Familiarity with most significant change research methodology and PMC intervention or similar intervention for disease prevention.
Proven experience in writing reports for public health programs or projects in Nigeria or similar developing country context
He/she should have experience in publications (should be first author of at 2 papers in (international journals).
Residency in Osun State is strongly preferred, to facilitate familiarity with local context and logistics.
Desired:
Access to a qualitative software such as Atlasti and have excellent capacity in the use of the software for coding and analysis
Extensive knowledge of the Nigerian public health sector
A proven ability to work as part of a team
Experience in setting up and facilitating meetings
Ability to work with little or no supervision
Good writing and reporting skills
Good presentation skills
Excellent writing and oral communication skills in English
