Job Title: Laboratory Technologist

Job Purpose / Objectives
To perform routine and non-routine analysis on oil, gas, and water samples, to ensure product quality and compliance with company standards, using specialized equipment and data management systems.
Duties & Responsibilities
Collect samples, calibrate equipment, log data, and troubleshoot issues while strictly adhering to safety and quality control procedures within the oil and gas industry.
Prepare sample collection protocols and execute sampling programs.
Collect and process samples from various field locations for oil, gas, water, and utility stream analysis.
Perform process control, optimization and product quality control analysis for the Uquo Central Processing Facility (UCPF), Ibom Gas Receiving Facility. City Gate Gas Receiving Facility, FUNG Crude Custody Transfer Facility and any other Savannah Energy facilities in Nigeria as required.
Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment including, but not limited to, Gas Chromatograph, Zegas Dewpoint Analyzer, Shaw Meter Moisture Analyzer, Karl Fischer Coulometric Titrator, ERAVAP Vapour Pressure Analyzer, UV-Vis Spectrophotometer, Hydrometers, Viscometers, Distillation Unit, Reid Vapor Apparatus, Centrifuge, and Pensky Martens Flash Point Tester.
Ensure equipment verification and or maintenance is valid prior to every test.
Conduct tests in full compliance with approved methods and standards.
Perform quality control checks, prepare standards, and troubleshoot equipment to ensure reliable and accurate results.
Record raw data, observations, and calculations on appropriate worksheets; prepare and submit test reports to the Laboratory Supervisor.
Accurately log and report test results using the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
Manage laboratory consumables and sample inventory; maintain accurate and auditable records of production chemical usage and stock levels.
Monitor chemical injection systems to ensure correct dosing, minimize wastage, and maximize production efficiency.
Prepare reagents, manage laboratory supplies, and maintain a clean and organized work environment. Ensure good housekeeping practices are followed at all times.
Adhere to Company’s HSSE policies, procedures and practices and participating in monthly HSSE and daily toolbox meetings; comply with all the requirements as stated in the company policies, procedures, standards, and chemical handling protocols; Report incidents such as unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, near misses and escalate any non-conformance for immediate Remedial Action Plan.
Conduct test runs and performance studies to support plant optimization, debottlenecking, and production enhancement.
Provide production chemistry support to address flow assurance challenges such as emulsion, foaming, hydrate, etc.
Monitor the quality of exported products (natural gas, condensate, and crude oil) to ensure compliance with contractual agreements (GSA & CHA).
Participate in statutory and regulatory audits, including Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) accreditation of the UCPF Production Chemistry Laboratory.
Perform quality verification of incoming products (diesel, production chemicals, oils, lubricants) to ensure they meet required specifications prior to site acceptance.
Conduct fluid analysis and condition monitoring of equipment and lubricants to support asset integrity.
Contribute to the preparation and review of laboratory manuals and procedures in line with MS ISO 17025 standards.
Interface with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering teams to plan and execute experiments and discuss results.
Job & Main Specifications (Education/Knowledge, Skills, Attributes, Experience & Other Required Details)
HND or equivalent in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering or related disciplines.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role, with proven experience in an oil and gas laboratory.
Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
Proficiency in MS Office Suite and laboratory software.
Knowledge of various laboratory testing methods, chemical and sample-handling protocols.
Ability to interpret technical data and operate specialized equipment.
Familiarity with MSDS and chemical safety regulations.
Strong record-keeping and documentation skills.
Knowledge of Management of Change procedures.
Ability to work with others in a field based multi-discipline production team.
Ability to strictly adhere to safety and quality protocols.
