Enoella Consult - Our client, reputable Engineering and Oil & Gas Service Company, is recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Lead Material Engineer
Location: Nigeria
Role Overview
The Lead Material Engineer is responsible for establishing the material selection philosophy and preliminary corrosion management strategy for the Pipeline project during the conceptual/Pre-FEED phase.
A primary focus will be evaluating the suitability of reusing existing line pipe materials. They will ensure that material choices align with process conditions, safety requirements, relevant codes, and project cost objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Lead Material Selection Efforts: Take primary responsibility for developing the Material Selection Philosophy/Report for the pipeline and associated station facilities (piping, launcher/receiver).
Line Pipe Reuse Evaluation: Conduct a thorough technical assessment of the suitability of reusing the previously procured 12-inch and 20-inch line pipe materials.
This includes reviewing historical data (if available), assessing compatibility with current service conditions and codes, and identifying potential limitations or required testing.
Corrosion Assessment (Preliminary): Perform a preliminary corrosion assessment based on the expected gas composition, operating conditions, and external environment (soil corrosivity data from geotechnical survey). Define the initial corrosion management philosophy.
Material Specification Input: Provide preliminary input for key material specifications for the pipeline, major piping components, and static equipment (launcher/receiver).
Coating & CP Input: Liaise with the Pipeline Engineer regarding the selection basis for external coatings (FBE) and provide input related to cathodic protection (CP) requirements from a materials/corrosion perspective.
Interface Management: Coordinate closely with Process, Pipeline, Mechanical/Piping, and Geotechnical Survey disciplines to gather necessary data (fluid compositions, temperatures, pressures, soil data) and ensure alignment on material selection.
Technical Integrity: Ensure material selection concepts comply with relevant industry codes (e.g., NACE MR0175/ISO 15156, ASME B31.8, API 5L) and COMPANY specifications.
Deliverable Ownership: Take ownership of the Material Selection Philosophy/Report and contribute relevant sections to the overall conceptual study report and design basis.
Safety Input: Provide materials/corrosion-related input to early safety reviews (HAZID).
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering with relevant specialization.
Significant experience (typically 10+ years) in materials selection and corrosion engineering within the oil and gas industry, specifically including gas pipelines.
Lead Material Engineer 15+ years, Proven experience in developing Material Selection Philosophies/Reports during conceptual and FEED stages.
Strong knowledge of relevant codes and standards (NACE, API, ASME), particularly concerning pipeline materials, sour service requirements, and corrosion mechanisms.
Proven track record in Oil & Gas Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) projects.
Strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent knowledge of international design codes and standards.
Proficiency in relevant engineering design and drafting software.
Demonstrated leadership, teamwork, and communication skills.
