Job Title: South African Chef

Job Summary
The Chef is responsible for planning, preparing, and executing high-quality meals that reflect South African and international culinary standards.
The role involves managing kitchen operations, ensuring food safety and hygiene compliance, and delivering exceptional dining experiences through creativity, consistency, and efficiency.
Key Responsibiliites
Food Preparation & Cooking:
Plan and prepare dishes in line with menu specifications and portion control.
Create innovative meals using fresh, locally sourced South African ingredients.
Maintain consistency in taste, quality, and presentation.
Oversee the preparation of traditional South African dishes such as bobotie, chakalaka, boerewors, bunny chow, and potjiekos.
Menu Planning & Development:
Design seasonal and themed menus that reflect South African cuisine and customer preferences.
Ensure cost-effectiveness by managing ingredient sourcing and waste control.
Introduce new recipes and modern culinary trends to enhance menu appeal.
Kitchen Management:
Supervise kitchen staff, delegate tasks, and monitor performance.
Ensure proper use, maintenance, and cleanliness of all kitchen equipment.
Maintain a safe, hygienic, and organized kitchen environment in compliance with HACCP standards.
Quality Control & Food Safety:
Adhere to all food safety, sanitation, and hygiene standards as per South African health regulations.
Regularly inspect food supplies and storage conditions to prevent spoilage.
Conduct regular temperature checks and maintain accurate records.
Cost Control & Inventory Management:
Monitor food costs, portion sizes, and wastage.
Manage inventory, place orders, and maintain supplier relationships.
Contribute to achieving the kitchen’s budget and profitability goals.
Customer Service & Collaboration:
Handle special dietary requests, events, and banquets with precision.
Maintain professionalism and courtesy when interacting with guests.
Skills and Competencies:
Culinary Expertise: Deep understanding of South African cuisine and international cooking techniques.
Creativity: Ability to develop innovative dishes and appealing presentations.
Leadership: Strong supervisory and team coordination skills.
Attention to Detail: Precision in recipe execution, hygiene, and plating.
Time Management: Ability to work efficiently in fast-paced environments.
Communication: Clear and effective communication with staff and management.
Adaptability: Flexibility to handle changing menus, dietary requirements, and kitchen dynamics.
Experience:
3–5 years of proven experience as a Chef, Sous Chef, or Senior Cook in a reputable restaurant, hotel, or catering establishment.
Experience with South African traditional cuisine and international menus.
Experience in menu costing, staff training, and kitchen operations management is an added advantage.
Salary
N120,000 - N150,000 per month.
