Job Title: Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Manager
Location: Nigeria
Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities
Ensuring that the Firm complies with applicable ESG regulations and standards and develop and implement strategies and programs that comply with the regulations and standards i.e. both the society’s evolving expectations about corporate behaviour and changing business models.
Weigh the risks and legal implications of the Firm’s business decisions and long-term plans.
Develop and manage plans to reduce and manage ESG risks and environmental impacts.
Carry out market research and competitive analysis to determine ESG factors that may affect the Firm’s activities i.e. trends and risks.
Track actions taken by the Firm to minimise ESG risks and environmental impacts.
Monitor the effectiveness of the implementation of appropriate ESG (Policies, Process, Procedures and Guides) and ensure that ESG initiatives and commitments are executed on time and to standard.
Manage ESG budgets, resources, data analysis and related expenses.
Prepare reports and documents to communicate the company's ESG progress and performance.
Draft legal and contractual documents for ESG activities and initiatives.
Organise and participate in ESG-related conferences, seminars, and other professional events
Support the Management in driving the education, communication, training, and implementation of the ESG-related initiatives across the Firm in all operational areas, including its associated business activities, sub-contractors, and supply chains, etc., where relevant.
Attend meetings and report to management on ESG progress and performance.
Ensure that emergency preparedness and response plans are developed, documented, implemented, and tested. Develop and communicate ESG practices and policies and ensure compliance.
Act as an EHS (Environment, Health and Safety) SME (Subject Matter Expert) for external stakeholders on behalf of the Firm. Address concerns from stakeholders and others on ESG issues.
Draft and publish a high-quality, digital "Impact Report" those details initiatives, metrics and future goals.
Requirements
3-4 years’ experience performing ESG reporting and/or advisory work with frameworks and ratings (e.g. GRI, CDP, RobecoSAM, SASB, TCFD etc.) directly in an internal function within a Firm, or as a consultant.
Specialist knowledge of ESG issues including climate risk, responsible lending and investment; impact investing, in Carbon Footprint Reduction, Responsible Investing, Environmental Discharges, ESG integration and implementation, sustainable and green finance, circular economy, corporate disclosure on environmental issues as well as the relevant standards and frameworks.
Related work experience at multi-national/ multifunctional Firm or experience in Environment, Health and Safety management.
An Advanced Degree (at least master’s or equivalent) in Engineering, Environmental Management, Environmental Sciences or relevant field.
ESG Analyst and ESG Investing Certifications (essential).
Project Management or Business Analysis certification(s) - added advantage.
Skills:
Good networking skills to liaise with key stakeholders i.e. staff & clients.
Strong communications, writing (in English), analytical research, and organisational skills.
Ability to develop, maintain, and enjoy effective working relationships with people from a wide variety of organisations and with a wide variety of functional expertise.
Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint and esp. Excel)
Competencies:
Understanding of ESG ratings and performance parameters and the Nigerian Environmental Laws and Sustainable Practices.
Working knowledge in ESG and will be a plus to have.
Knowledge in Carbon Footprint Reduction, Responsible Investing, Environmental Discharges,
Experience implementing OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) programs, managing emergency response incidents, implemented corrective actions, conducting or leading training in applicable OSHA areas and evaluating programs, issuing recommendations etc., is desirable.
Knowledgeable of the Nigerian eco-system.
