Job Title: Technical / Process Safety Engineer

Description
The role is responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of robust Technical/Process Safety Framework to support Concept Studies, FEED, DEED, Fabrication, Construction/Installation and Operations to ensure company business objectives are achieved safely and sustainably.
The incumbent will identify, and articulate Technical Safety, Process Safety and Asset Integrity deliveries required in projects and in operations, develop plan for their completion and ensure the realization of deliverables in line with plan.
He/She will also be the company’s Technical/Process Safety Technical Authority/Subject Matter Expert and will provide technical and commercial input and updates in specific areas of engineering expertise, project planning and operations as well in regulatory/stakeholder liaison and engagements.
The role will have internal working relationships with teams leads and frontline personnel in Engineering and Capital Projects, Production, Drilling and Completions and HSE. External relationships include NUPRC, NMDPRA, FMenv, EPC Contractor organisations, industry bodies as well as local and international consultants on Technical/Process safety
Responsibilities
Principal Accountabilities for the Role Include:
Review multi-discipline engineering documents to ensure that concepts and/or designs which minimise potential risks have been adopted.
Provide technical assurance review of technical safety deliverables produced by contractors.
Oversee and validate safety engineering and risk assessment (and legislative compliance) studies including fire, explosion, smoke, and gas dispersion modelling, QRA, etc. in accordance with company procedures and industry best practices.
Initiate and facilitate formal safety studies, reviews and audits such as HAZID, Bowties, ENVID, HAZOP, SIL studies workshops etc.
Identify foreseeable hazards for modifications to production installations so that appropriate studies can be completed.
Lead the technical safety team at project kick-off meetings, progress audits, verifications, workshops, and technical reviews and be responsible for an effective and timely resolution of identified issues
Requirements
A degree in Engineering is required. However, A degree in any other Science or Technical course could also be considered, where the incumbent possesses the relevant skills and experience.
Minimum of 10 years’ cognate experience within the Upstream Oil & Gas Industry or services sectors as Technical Safety Engineer.
Post graduate degree in specialised/related discipline is an advantage
Strong Safety leadership skills and experience
Relevant professional trainings, certifications, and membership (COREN, NSE or equivalent) are desirable
Professional registration in Technical and Process safety with reputable professional institutions is an added advantage
Knowledge & Understanding of the following techniques: Safety Studies, HAZOP/SIL/LOPA/HAZID, BowTie Analysis, ALARP, SIMOPS, Fire & Explosion modelling, QRA is required.
