Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has proudly established a Professorial Endowment Programme dedicated to the promotion and preservation of Igbo Language, Literature and Culture.
The programme is being managed by a Board of Trustees (BOT).
Philosophy, Aims and Objectives of the programme
The Endowment Programme is underpinned by the following philosophy, aims and objectives:
To stimulate scholarly research, and documentation on Igbo Language, Literature and Culture
To organize conferences, seminars and workshops aimed at the promotion and propagation of Igbo Language, Literature and Culture
To identify appropriate methodologies for stimulating renewed interest and attention of Ndi Igbo both at home and in the diaspora to Igbo Language, Literature and Culture.
To develop strong curricular for the teaching and learning of Igbo language in schools and colleges in Igbo land and Nigeria.
To design and execute training and development programmes aimed at capacity building towards instituting strong Faculties of Igbo Language, Literature and Culture in selected Universities in Igbo land.
To create a linkage with Ndi Igbo in diaspora for the promotion and application of Igbo language worldwide.
To trace and document the authentic history and identity of Igbo people.
To explore other academically productive ways of promoting all aspects of Igbo Culture.
Overview of the Professional Chair
The Professional Chair in Igbo Language, Literature and Culture is an academic position that recognizes distinguished scholars for their notable contributions to research, teaching and community service in the development and propagation of Igbo studies in general and in the field of Igbo language, literature and culture.
The Chair will be awarded to full-time Professors who preferably possess doctorate degrees in Igbo studies.
Eligibility / Quality guidelines
To qualify for the Professional Chair Award in Igbo language, Literature and Culture, the candidate shall meet the following criteria:
Must be a tenured/full-time Professor of Igbo Language/Linguistics/History from a recognized University.
Should have a 1st degree in Igbo or linguistics with specialization in Igbo language.
Currently involved in effective teaching, productive research and active service programmes in Igbo related fields.
Be specialized in Igbo language, Literature and other related areas.
Submit a convincing proposal, detailing an innovative and impactful academic/project or research initiative focused on the preservation, promotion, or revitalization of Igbo language/cultural heritage.
Duration:
The Professorial endowment has a tenure of 24 calendar months contingent on the satisfactory performance of the Awardee.

Applications will be evaluated based on:
Academic merit and cultural relevance of the proposal
Feasibility and sustainability of the project
Contribution to the preservation and advancement of Igbo Language, Literature and Culture
Benefits
The Professorial Chair Endowment will attract a purse of Five Million Naira (N5,000,000.00) each, distributed as follows:
Each Awardee will be entitled to an annual Honorarium of Two million, Five hundred thousand Naira only (N2,500,000.00) contingent on Satisfactory Performance Report based on Annual Performance Review by the Board of Trustees.
The Awardee will be expected to present a budget to cover his/her programmes/activities which will be approved by the Board. The tenure of an awardee ceases in any case of non-satisfactory performance or incapacitation.
As part of this visionary initiative, applications are hereby invited from qualified Professors of Igbo Language with a proven track record of scholarship, cultural engagement, and a strong commitment to the promotion of Igbo heritage.
