Job Title: Head of Finance & Accounts
Location: Abuja (FCT)
The Role
The Head, Finance & Accounts plays a crucial role in ensuring sound financial management in ASO, regional offices, maintaining organization accounts, new business budgeting, financial reporting managing commercial wings of MSIN, deals with internal and external auditor and controls across MSI Nigeria Reproductive Choices' service delivery channels in each regional office.
This role involves conducting supportive supervision visits, contributing to financial reports, analyzing data for decision-making, and managing payroll processes.
The HFA coordinates closely all other departments and ensures compliance with financial procedures and policies.
With strong leadership skills, attention to the detail, donors compliances and the ability to multitask, the HFA supports the Finance Director in achieving financial goals and maintaining financial and non financial data integrity. Ethical conduct, resilience, and proactive decision-making are key attributes for success in this role.
Advise the Finance Director, SMT and other country management team on financial strategy, risk, and commercial investment decisions
Lead business planning, financial planning, project budgeting, and forecasting aligned with organizational strategy and development of the annual business plan
Identify and support strategic initiatives that promote growth and financial sustainability through new business models, efficiency improvements, and partnerships across both private and public sectors
Provide ideas and influence to expand MSIN social business, including innovative approaches to financing health services, and advise on opportunities that enhance impact and cost-effectiveness.
Production of high-quality financial analysis of our Centre and social marketing operations and daily analysis report of both primary and secondary sales.
Prepare comprehensive monthly financial reports and management accounts, identifying variances and proposing corrective actions.
Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement.
Recognize and map sales receipts to appropriate distributor to ensure proper debt aging for the SM Channel
Monitoring of debtors aging and flagging on timely basis with the Regional sales Managers and the SM director.
Business planning, Budgeting and Forecasting:
Work with all units and facilitate the process of annual business planning process and ensure accuracy and timely submission as delegation by FD
Work with the Grant Unit, Programme Department, and other stakeholders in the budgeting process, including developing annual budgets (Business Plan), rolling forecasts, and P4 or/P7 forecasts.
Work with the Grant unit to provide financial forecasts and projections to support strategic planning.
Support the channel leads in developing new business opportunities, whether through new channels, new geographies, or expansions of product and service offerings in existing channels.
Donor & Grant Management
Coordinate briefings with donors team, MSI and government entities as required.
Lead development of donor budgets and ensure right budgeting as per MSI global pricing standard,
Timely and accurate financial reports that meet contractual and compliance requirements
Support proposal development with accurate costing and financial analysis
Monitor and manage programme budgets and expenditure trends, strengthening systems for tracking restricted and unrestricted funds to ensure full cost recovery and the optimal use of MSIN and donors’ resources.
Ensure correct donors charging/coding and allocation of shared cost as per MSIN cost allocation policy.
Risk and Debt Management:
Identify financial and non financial risks across country program and support FD and SMT to implementing mitigation strategies.
Manage trade partner credit limits, ensuring regular reviews and reconciliations of debt balances.
Conduct periodic reviews of contracts with trade partners and health insurance institutions, ensuring financial and legal compliance.
Involves in reviewing the credit limit setting and rebate/discount structure.
Conduct regular risk assessments, identifying potential risks in cash management, social marketing sales, centre income, and inventory processes, and implementing mitigation measures.
Financial Analysis and Strategy:
Conduct financial and non financial data analysis to support business decision-making.
Supporting the SM (Pillar 3) and Pillar 2 Director in regular business reviews.
Provide strategic recommendations to enhance financial performance and business growth.
Support SMT/CSMT with financial insights and strategic advice.
Advice FD , channel leads and SM director on cost reduction initiatives in the both NGO and commercial channels.
Responsible with the SMD/Centre CL to produce a high-quality business case to support new product launches and market opportunities.
Support the channel, leading in overseeing the operational performance of key business partners including distributors, suppliers, sales team, incentives etc
Business & Commercial Support:
Partner with commercial teams to assess financial viability of new ventures and pricing strategies
Develop business cases and ROI analysis for investments and service delivery models
Support social marketing and clinic network profitability analysis on monthly basis
Support the Operations department, TSD in the development and maintenance of robust systems to capture operational data.
Support SM team to ensure financial and non financial data is analysed regularly and advice on sustainability of each centre and SM products viability.
Audit, Tax & Compliance:
Lead statutory audit and project audit with support of FC and grant team. Ensure financial statement are prepared timely and presented to auditors.
Ensure accurate and timely filing of all tax, and statutory obligations
Lead periodic tax health checks to assess compliance risks, identify exposure areas, and recommend corrective actions
Coordinate internal and external audits, and maintain effective relationships with external auditors and regulatory bodies, ensuring timely implementation of recommendations in line with group reporting timetables
Ensure full compliance with MSI global standards, Nigerian laws, and donor requirements.
Qualification, Experience and Skills
A Master's Degree with a minimum of 2nd class Upper division, and recognised professional qualifications such as ACA, ACCA, etc.
8 - 12 years post-NYSC experience in a similar role with an NGO/INGO or commercial sector
Working knowledge of different donors KFW, ECHO DFI CIFF, GF etc.
Ability to use ERP and SUN Accounting package and other accounting packages
Advance excel skills preferred
Ability to multitask, manage a workload and produce high quality, on-time work
Good team player and flexible while working with other colleagues
Handling of highly confidential information.
Significant experience in internal controls and compliance.
Proficiency in MS Office (advance Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Knowledge of standard accounting software packages (, tally, power BI, QuickBooks, SUN Systems). ERP knowledge will be added advantage
Understanding of organizational dynamics and maintaining objectivity.
Strong organizational and coordination skills.
Ability to establish and maintain contacts with senior-level government and distributors.
Experience of working with colleagues in geographically separate locations.
Able to communicate effectively (both written and oral) at all levels.
Cross-functional team player.
