We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title: Farm Technical Officer (Maize and Cassava Production)
The Technical Officer will serve as the field team leader responsible for organizing, guiding, and directly participating in all day-to-day farm activities on the 185-hectare maize and cassava farm in Oyo State.
Reporting to the Farm Supervisor, the Technical Officer will ensure that laborers carry out their tasks correctly, efficiently, and safely according to the farm’s operational plan.
This is a fully hands-on role, requiring strong practical knowledge of maize and cassava production and a commitment to teamwork, discipline, and productivity.
Key Responsibilities
Field Operations:
Lead and participate actively in land preparation, planting, weeding, fertilizer application, spraying, and harvesting operations.
Ensure that farm activities are executed in line with agronomic instructions from the Farm Supervisor and Farm Manager.
Monitor crops daily for signs of pests, diseases, or nutrient deficiency and report findings promptly.
Assist in implementing soil conservation and sustainable farming practices.
Support efficient and correct use of seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and other inputs.
Labor Coordination:
Supervise groups of laborers, assigning specific tasks and monitoring their completion.
Motivate workers to maintain discipline, productivity, and quality of work.
Enforce adherence to safety rules and use of protective gear.
Train laborers on correct techniques for planting, spraying, weeding, and harvesting.
Machinery, Tools, and Equipment:
Ensure proper use, cleaning, and storage of farm tools, equipment, and machinery.
Assist tractor operators and mechanics during land preparation and equipment maintenance.
Report damages or faults in equipment promptly to the Farm Supervisor.
Record-Keeping and Reporting:
Record daily work activities, manpower deployment, and input usage in assigned sections.
Report daily progress and field observations to the Farm Supervisor.
Keep attendance and performance records for the laborers under your supervision.
Safety and Farm Maintenance:
Maintain field hygiene and ensure safe work practices among all workers.
Ensure tools and materials are properly returned and stored after each day’s work.
Support general maintenance of farm structures, irrigation lines, and storage areas.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Timely and proper execution of assigned field tasks.
Labor efficiency and attendance.
Quality of crop maintenance and field hygiene.
Compliance with safety and operational instructions.
Accuracy of daily reports and input usage records.
Qualifications and Experience
Minimum Requirements:
National Diploma (OND), Technical Certificate, or Senior Secondary Certificate (SSCE) with strong agricultural experience.
At least 2 years of practical, field-based experience in crop production or farm labor supervision (maize and cassava preferred).
Ability to supervise and motivate small groups of workers.
Basic understanding of crop production processes and safe use of agrochemicals.
Willingness to live and work full-time on the farm.
Desirable Skills and Attributes:
Physically fit and hardworking.
Honest, disciplined, and reliable.
Good communication and team leadership skills.
Hands-on technical ability with farm tools and machinery.
Readiness to work long hours during planting and harvesting seasons.
Working Conditions:
Full-time, on-site role at the 185-hectare farm in Oyo State.
Required to stay on the farm Monday through Saturday each week.
Accommodation and basic welfare facilities provided on-site.
Extended work hours may be required during peak farming periods.
Remuneration
Salary: N70,000 - N80,000 Monthly.
