At BigSun Africa, we are building a movement of empowered African youth committed to sustainability, clean energy, and climate action. Born out of a need to address energy poverty and environmental challenges across the continent, we provide practical training, awareness, and leadership development programs focused on renewable energy and eco-friendly practices. Project Officer supports project planning, implementation, and monitoring, which includes tasks like designing project activities, tracking progress against milestones, and managing budgets.
They often liaise with implementing partners and stakeholders, conduct field visits to monitor activities, and collect data for reporting and evaluation purposes.
Other duties include providing technical support and training, managing communication with stakeholders, and ensuring that projects align with the organization's goals.
Duties and Responsibilities
Support the program team to record and analyze monitoring data for reporting and timely communicate the results of analysis to inform programme decision making
Conduct surveys and analyze data on a quarterly basis and make recommendations to improve the project based on the findings
Support the Project Manager to prepare periodic project reports based on accurate and evidence-based data/information
Support the Monitoring and Evaluation team in the tracking of outcome of activities evidenced by accurate data to enhance quality of reporting
Identify and document human interest stories and case studies based on the successes of implemented projects
Assist program team in reviewing log frames, M&E work plans and targets at proposal development stage through the project implementation
Assist to identify needs and opportunities by conducting training needs assessments.
Collect data on project indicators and maintain an updated database on project progress
Assist in tracking project performance at community level and report, monitor and follow up on project activities.
Conduct regular visits to project sites to monitor the implementation of activities, gather feedback from beneficiaries and submit detailed report about the activities and findings
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Project Management, Nonprofit Management, or a related field.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in project management within the nonprofit sector.
Strong project management skills, including planning, monitoring, and evaluation.
Good communication, interpersonal, and networking skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a multicultural team, often requiring travel to remote areas.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Experience providing training and capacity building to staff or partners is often required.
