Godiya Cherished Care for Humanitarian Response Initiative (GCCHRI) is a non-profit and a non-governmental organization founded in 2022 by a group of young researchers. Our core mission is to elevate community health standards through a multifaceted approach encompassing research, advocacy, health promotion and education, community development, capacity building, program evaluation, impact assessments, needs analysis, baseline/midline/endline surveys, systems strengthening, and targeted service delivery. Our focus extends particularly to the vulnerable and marginalized populations in Nigeria and beyond.

With a strategic emphasis on humanitarian principles, we strive to make enduring contributions to the well-being of those in need, fostering resilience, and championing sustainable healthcare solutions.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: WASH Officer 

Location: Dikwa, Borno
Duration: 6 Months – Extendable 

Job Summary

  • The WASH Officer will work under the direct supervision of the Project Coordinator to support the planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of all water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) interventions in Dikwa.
  • The position ensures that activities meet technical and quality standards, are delivered within timelines, and promote equitable access to safe water, improved sanitation, and positive hygiene behaviors.
  • The role involves supervising field implementation, supporting community engagement, ensuring compliance with standards, and contributing to capacity building and sustainability of WASH services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Project Coordinator in planning, organizing, and implementing WASH activities in accordance with project workplans, donor requirements, and organizational standards.
  • Supervise contractors, artisans, and community workers to ensure quality and timely delivery of WASH infrastructure and services.
  • Participate in procurement processes by developing technical specifications and verifying the quality of materials and workmanship.
  • Oversee the installation, operation, and maintenance of water supply systems (including hand pumps and solar-powered systems).
  • Conduct and monitor water quality testing, ensuring compliance with national and WHO standards.
  • Support the construction, operation, and maintenance of safe sanitation facilities for communities and institutions.
  • Facilitate Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) or similar participatory approaches to eliminate open defecation.
  • Promote solid waste management, vector control, and environmental sanitation activities.
  • Design and implement hygiene promotion campaigns focusing on key practices such as handwashing, food hygiene, and menstrual hygiene management (MHM).
  • Train, mentor, and supervise community hygiene promoters and volunteers.
  • Monitor and document hygiene behavior changes, using community feedback to adapt interventions.
  • Prepare and submit timely progress, monitoring, and technical reports.
  • Conduct post-distribution and post-construction monitoring to ensure sustainability.
  • Coordinate with other sectors (Health, Nutrition, Shelter, Education) for an integrated, multi-sectoral response.
  • Represent the organization in local WASH coordination forums and meetings, as delegated.
  • Build the capacity of community WASH committees and relevant local authorities.
  • Ensure all interventions adhere to Sphere Standards, national WASH guidelines, and organizational policies.
  • Mainstream gender, protection, and environmental considerations across all WASH activities.
  • Promote accountability, inclusion, and respect for the dignity and rights of all beneficiaries.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Academic Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or HND in Civil Engineering, Environmental Health, Water Resources Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in WASH project implementation within humanitarian or development settings.
  • Proven technical knowledge of water supply systems, sanitation design, and hygiene promotion.
  • Experience in community mobilization, participatory approaches, and capacity building.
  • Good understanding of WASH standards, protection principles, and gender-sensitive programming.
  • Strong skills in report writing, data collection, and basic WASH monitoring tools.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in multi-cultural and multi-sectoral teams.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); familiarity with basic GIS or WASH data management tools is an advantage.
  • Fluency in English required; knowledge of Hausa or local languages is an asset.
