We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Cashier

Location: Maitama, Abuja
Employment Type: Full-time

Main Function

• The Cashier is responsible for processing customer transactions accurately, efficiently, and professionally while maintaining a high standard of customer service.
• The role ensures proper handling of cash, POS operations, receipts, and daily financial reconciliation.
• The Cashier also supports sales activities, maintains a clean workstation, and assists with product inquiries to enhance customer satisfaction.
• The ideal candidate must be trustworthy, courteous, and attentive, with strong numerical accuracy and the ability to work in a fast-paced retail or hospitality environment.

Role Responsibilities
Cash Handling and Transaction Processing:

• Receive payments from customers through cash, POS, transfers, or other approved channels.
• Issue receipts, invoices, and change accurately.
• Process sales transactions quickly and efficiently in line with company standards.
• Maintain proper cash float and ensure accurate balancing at the beginning and end of each shift.
• Ensure all transactions are recorded correctly in the POS system.

Customer Service:

• Welcome customers warmly and attend to them professionally.
• Provide product information, price checks, and support customer inquiries.
• Resolve basic customer complaints or refer to the supervisor when necessary.
• Maintain a friendly and positive attitude to enhance customer satisfaction.

Daily Reconciliation and Reporting:

• Reconcile cash received against sales at the end of each shift.
• Prepare cash reports, sales summaries, and submit them to the accountant or supervisor.
• Immediately report any cash shortages, overages, or suspicious transactions.
• Ensure proper documentation and safe handling of all financial records.

POS and Inventory Support:

• Operate POS systems, scanners, and other checkout equipment efficiently.
• Assist in verifying product prices, discounts, and promotions.
• Support basic stock checks and report low-stock items to the supervisor.
• Ensure products around the checkout area are clean, organized, and properly displayed.

Compliance and Process Adherence:

• Follow all company policies related to cash handling, customer service, and operational standards.
• Maintain strict confidentiality regarding financial transactions and customer information.
• Adhere to safety procedures and report any operational issues promptly.
• Ensure compliance with audit, accounting, and security procedures.

Workstation Maintenance:

• Keep the cashier desk clean, orderly, and presentable at all times.
• Ensure promotional materials and items around the workstation are tidy.
• Report malfunctioning POS machines or equipment immediately.

Experience / Qualification

• Minimum of SSCE, with OND/HND/BSc as an added advantage
• Minimum of 1 – 3 years experience as a cashier or customer service personnel
• Experience in retail, hospitality, fuel station, supermarket, or restaurant environment preferred
• Knowledge of basic accounting principles is an advantage
• Familiarity with POS systems and electronic payment methods.
