Job Title: Tax Manager
Location: Apapa, Lagos
Job Description
The Tax Manager will oversee all aspects of taxation for assigned business units or regions within Olam Agri.
This includes managing tax compliance processes, optimizing the company's effective tax rate (ETR), conducting tax planning initiatives, and minimizing tax risks.
The role requires a deep understanding of corporate income tax, withholding tax, VAT/GST, and international tax principles (including Transfer Pricing and BEPS rules).
The Tax Manager will partner closely with Finance, Legal, and Business teams to ensure tax efficiency in all commercial transactions and operational structures.
Key Deliverables
Tax Planning and Optimization:
Identify and implement legitimate tax planning strategies to legally minimize tax liabilities and optimize the Effective Tax Rate (ETR).
Conduct tax due diligence and structuring advice for new investments, mergers, acquisitions, and restructuring projects within the Olam Agri group.
Tax Risk Management and Audits:
Manage and coordinate all tax audits, inquiries, and disputes with local and international tax authorities, minimizing potential exposure and ensuring favorable outcomes.
Maintain robust documentation and control frameworks to support tax positions and demonstrate compliance with Transfer Pricing rules (e.g., local file, master file).
Advisory and Business Support:
Provide expert tax advice on complex operational and commercial matters, including commodity trading structures, cross-border transactions, and supply chain logistics.
Stay abreast of new and evolving tax legislation
Tax Compliance and Reporting:
Manage and review the preparation and timely filing of all corporate income tax returns and statutory tax payments across relevant jurisdictions.
Oversee and ensure compliance with Indirect Tax requirements (VAT/GST, Sales Tax) and Withholding Tax obligations for both domestic and cross-border payments.
Prepare and review tax provisions for financial reporting (IFRS/GAAP) and Deferred Tax computations, ensuring accuracy for period-end closing.
Strategic Effectiveness
Value Creation: Act as a strategic partner by ensuring that all commercial initiatives and operational models are tax-efficient, thus preserving business value and enhancing shareholder return.
Risk Control: Proactively identify and assess high-risk tax areas within the agribusiness and manufacturing value chain, developing and implementing controls to ensure sustainable tax governance and mitigate exposure.
Automation and Efficiency: Champion the adoption of tax technology and automation tools to streamline tax compliance, reporting, and documentation processes, improving efficiency and accuracy.
Requirements
Qualifications & Experience:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Tax Law, or a related field. A Master's degree in Taxation is highly desirable.
Professional Certification: A recognized professional qualification in Tax or Accounting is essential (e.g., Chartered Accountant (CA), CPA, ACCA, Chartered Tax Advisor (CTA), or equivalent).
Experience: 6 to 10 years of progressive corporate tax experience in a complex multinational environment or a specialized tax consulting firm.
Sector Knowledge: Experience with tax issues specific to Agribusiness, Commodity Trading, Manufacturing, or FMCG is a significant advantage.
Skills & Competencies:
Technical Expertise: Comprehensive knowledge of Corporate Income Tax (CIT), International Tax, and Indirect Tax (VAT/GST). Strong understanding of Transfer Pricing principles.
Accounting for Tax: Proficiency in ASC 740 (or equivalent IFRS/GAAP standards) for accounting for income taxes, including deferred tax calculations and effective tax rate reconciliation.
System Proficiency: Experience working with tax compliance software and major ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) for extracting financial data and managing tax reporting processes.
Communication & Negotiation: Exceptional analytical, research, and technical writing skills. Proven ability to effectively negotiate and communicate complex tax issues with tax authorities and senior management.
