Job Title: Medical Laboratory Scientist (Haematologist)

Job Summary

• The Medical Laboratory Scientist (Haematologist) is responsible for performing a wide range of haematological analyses to support accurate diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of patients.
• The role requires strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and adherence to quality and safety standards.
• The MLS (Haematology) ensures timely processing of samples, maintenance of laboratory equipment, and compliance with regulatory and hospital protocols.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine and specialized haematology tests, including CBC, ESR, reticulocyte count, coagulation profile, blood film preparation, and interpretation.
• Analyze and validate test results to ensure accuracy and reliability before reporting.
• Assist clinicians with relevant haematology interpretations and provide necessary technical guidance.
• Operate, calibrate, and maintain haematology analyzers and related laboratory equipment.
• Ensure proper collection, labeling, handling, and processing of blood and body fluid samples.
• Conduct quality control procedures and participate in internal/external quality assurance programs.
• Document all laboratory activities accurately in LIS/logbooks according to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Follow biosafety guidelines and maintain a clean, safe, and organized laboratory environment.
• Participate in stock management, reagent preparation, and ensuring availability of consumables.
• Collaborate with other laboratory personnel to support efficient workflow and high service delivery.
• Participate in continuous professional development and training activities.
• Support the development and periodic review of haematology SOPs and policies.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS) from a recognized institution.
• Valid practicing license from the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN).
• Minimum of 1–3 years post-NYSC experience in a hospital or diagnostic laboratory (haematology focus preferred).
• Proficiency in haematology analyzers and laboratory information systems.
• Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent documentation, communication, and teamwork abilities.
• Good understanding of quality management systems (QMS) and biosafety practices.
