Job Title: Medical Laboratory Scientist (Haematologist)

Job Summary
The Medical Laboratory Scientist (Haematologist) is responsible for performing a wide range of haematological analyses to support accurate diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of patients.
The role requires strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and adherence to quality and safety standards.
The MLS (Haematology) ensures timely processing of samples, maintenance of laboratory equipment, and compliance with regulatory and hospital protocols.
Key Responsibilities
Perform routine and specialized haematology tests, including CBC, ESR, reticulocyte count, coagulation profile, blood film preparation, and interpretation.
Analyze and validate test results to ensure accuracy and reliability before reporting.
Assist clinicians with relevant haematology interpretations and provide necessary technical guidance.
Operate, calibrate, and maintain haematology analyzers and related laboratory equipment.
Ensure proper collection, labeling, handling, and processing of blood and body fluid samples.
Conduct quality control procedures and participate in internal/external quality assurance programs.
Document all laboratory activities accurately in LIS/logbooks according to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Follow biosafety guidelines and maintain a clean, safe, and organized laboratory environment.
Participate in stock management, reagent preparation, and ensuring availability of consumables.
Collaborate with other laboratory personnel to support efficient workflow and high service delivery.
Participate in continuous professional development and training activities.
Support the development and periodic review of haematology SOPs and policies.
Qualifications & Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS) from a recognized institution.
Valid practicing license from the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN).
Minimum of 1–3 years post-NYSC experience in a hospital or diagnostic laboratory (haematology focus preferred).
Proficiency in haematology analyzers and laboratory information systems.
Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent documentation, communication, and teamwork abilities.
Good understanding of quality management systems (QMS) and biosafety practices.
