Job Summary
A heavy-duty mechanic shall carry out the following functions; diagnosing, repairing, and performing maintenance on Manitowoc cranes, trucks, bulldozers, excavators and any other heavy-duty equipment.
This involves inspecting, adjusting, and overhauling components like engines, transmissions, brakes, and hydraulic systems, often using computerized diagnostic tools.
Also handle administrative duties, including recording repairs and ordering parts.
Primary Duties
Diagnose and inspect: Use diagnostic tools and physical inspection to identify mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in heavy equipment.
Repair and overhaul: Repair or replace defective parts, such as engines, transmissions, brakes, and steering systems. Overhaul major components to restore them to proper working order.
Perform maintenance: Conduct scheduled maintenance like lubrication and fluid checks to prevent breakdowns and extend the life of equipment.
Field service: Respond to service calls to perform repairs at job sites, which may involve traveling to locations to fix large equipment like cranes.
Use tools and equipment: Operate a variety of shop tools, including welding equipment, hoists, and computerized diagnostic tools.
Safety and compliance: Ensure all work is performed in compliance with safety regulations and standards.
Documentation: Maintain accurate logs of equipment condition, work performed, and manage work orders.
Equipment and systems serviced:
Mechanic, Diesel and gasoline engines
Transmissions and drivetrains (clutch, gearbox, differential)
Brake systems (air and hydraulic)
Suspension and steering systems
Electrical and electronic systems
Mechanical/Hydraulic systems
Construction equipment (dozers, loaders, excavators)

Required Skills and Qualifications
4 - 10 years experience as a Manitowoc crane mechanic is highly preferred. Specific experience with Manitowoc EPIC and Traditional cranes is a Must.
Technical knowledge: Must have experience with hydraulics and electrical systems, and a good understanding of mechanical components.
Manual skills: Ability to use tools like micrometers and gauges for accurate measurements and failure analysis.
Diagnostic skills: Proficient in using various test systems and diagnostic equipment.
Soft skills: Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team are essential.
Education: A high school diploma or Trade test is typically required
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
High attention to detail and accuracy in data entry.
Good communication and teamwork abilities.
Ability to work under pressure and meet project deadlines.
Strong commitment to HSE and quality standards.
