Job Title: Civil Road Engineer

Job Summary
Responsible for the design, construction, and maintenance of roads and related infrastructure, ensuring projects are safe, efficient, and adhere to all local and international standards. Duties include creating designs using CAD software, managing construction activities on-site, supervising teams, ensuring quality control and safety, liaising with stakeholders, and preparing project reports and documentation.
Responsible for leading the planning, execution, and delivery of construction projects. This includes resource allocation, risk management, stakeholder engagement, and ensuring project objectives are met.
Responsibilities
Operational:
Design and planning:Create and review designs, plans, and specifications for road projects, including pavement thickness calculations, drainage, and reinforcement details.
Site supervision:Oversee all on-site construction activities, manage labor and machinery, and ensure work aligns with project plans and specifications.
Quality control and safety:Conduct site inspections and quality assurance tests on materials and construction, while also enforcing strict Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) standards among all workers.
Project management:Manage project timelines, budgets, and resource allocation. This includes tracking material consumption and providing regular progress reports to management and clients.
Collaboration:Liaise with other professionals such as surveyors, geotechnical engineers, contractors, and regulatory authorities to resolve technical issues and ensure project success.
Technical documentation:Prepare technical reports, cost estimates, and as-built drawings. Maintain project documentation and respond to comments from reviews.
Reporting: Prepare comprehensive project reports, including progress updates and performance metrics. Provide regular project status updates to stakeholders. Identify and mitigate project risks promptly.
Requirements
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Highway Engineering, or related field (Mandatory).
Master’s Degree in Transportation/Highway Engineering (Added Advantage).
COREN Registration or ability to obtain within a defined period (Strongly preferred).
Professional Certifications:
Certification in Project Management (PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent) – Added advantage
HSE Certifications (HSE Levels 1–3, NEBOSH IGC or equivalent)
Proficiency in road design software (AutoCAD Civil 3D, Revit, CivilSoft, MS Projects).
Strong understanding of road geometric design, pavement design, drainage design, and materials testing procedures.
Knowledge of local and international standards (AASHTO, BS, ASTM, FHWA, Nigerian Road Design Manual, etc.).
Strong background in site supervision, quality control, and construction methodologies.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, BOQs, and as-built documentation.
Experience:
At least 5 years minimum experience in road construction, infrastructure projects, or civil engineering works.
Hands-on experience managing on-site activities, machinery, subcontractors, and technical teams.
Proven track record of delivering road construction or rehabilitation projects on schedule and within budget.
Behavioural Competencies:
Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
Excellent leadership, team coordination, and stakeholder management skills.
High sense of accountability, discipline, and adherence to HSE standards.
Strong problem-solving ability and capacity to make quick, technical decisions on-site.
Other Requirements:
Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project).
Ability to work in remote/on-site project locations.
Strong analytical and reporting skills.
Salary
N1,000, 000 – N1,500,000 annually.
