Job Summary
The Policy Research Specialist will play a pivotal role in our Business Development and Client Management/Govt Affairs teams, supporting the firm's public policy consulting services by conducting in-depth research on African governance, regulations, and funding mechanisms.
This position is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with a keen interest in Sub-Saharan African policy landscapes who thrives on translating complex data into actionable insights.
You will collaborate with senior consultants to inform client strategies, advocacy efforts, and compliance initiatives, contributing directly to our mission of empowering transformative change.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive research on government policies, regulatory frameworks, and funding opportunities in target Sub-Saharan African countries (e.g., Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa).
Monitor and analyse emerging policy trends, legislative changes, and geopolitical developments relevant to clients in public policy, human capital, and development sectors.
Draft high-quality position papers, briefing notes, policy briefs, and reports to
support advocacy, client proposals, and internal strategy sessions.
Support compliance assessments for client projects, identifying risks and
opportunities related to regulatory adherence.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., Business Development) to
integrate policy insights into market entry strategies and partnership proposals.
Maintain a database of key policy resources, stakeholder mappings, and
intelligence on international donors and African Union initiatives.
Assist in preparing materials for government engagements, workshops, and
thought leadership events, including data visualisation and summarisation.
Contribute to the firm's Intelligence Hub by curating content on policy-related news and resources for client and internal use.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Public Policy, International Relations, Political Science, Law, Economics, or a related field.
4-6 years of relevant experience in policy research, think tanks, NGOs, consulting firms, or government agencies, with a focus on Sub-Saharan Africa.
Demonstrated knowledge of African policy ecosystems, including familiarity with institutions like the African Development Bank or national regulatory bodies.
Skills and Competencies:
Strong research and analytical skills, with proficiency in qualitative and
quantitative methods (e.g., using tools like NVivo, Excel, or Stata).
Excellent writing and communication skills, with the ability to produce clear,
concise documents for diverse audiences.
Proficiency in English, French or other regional languages (e.g., Swahili) is a plus.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, multicultural environment.
Tech-savvy with experience in data visualisation tools (e.g., Tableau) and online research databases.
Commitment to ethical research practices and cultural sensitivity in African contexts.
High level of discretion and attention to detail when handling sensitive policy information.
