Job Title: Head of Workshop

Job Summary
We are seeking a seasoned Head of Workshop with hands-on experience. A strong engineering background and extensive experience in heavy duty equipment and trucks maintenance to lead our workshop operations in a mining company setting.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of optimizing workshop performance, ensuring safety and reliability of our fleet, and managing a team of skilled technicians.
Additionally, he will oversee quality repairs, predictive maintenance with AI, and preventive maintenance schedules, and performance appraisal of subordinates.
Key Responsibilities
Manage daily operations of the workshop, ensuring timely and efficient maintenance of heavy-duty trucks
Supervise and mentor workshop staff, fostering a culture of accountability and excellence
Develop and enforce preventive maintenance schedules and repair protocols
Ability to work with cross-functional teams, including AI/data scientists to achieve preventive maintenance
Monitor inventory of tools, equipment, and spare parts
Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations
Liaise with logistics and operations teams to align maintenance activities with business needs
Prepare and present reports on workshop performance, costs, and fleet condition
Oversee daily operations in the workshop, ensuring tools and equipment are maintained and used properly.
Maintain an organized and safe working environment.
Hands-on experience with various various earth-moving equipment and trucks including Bulldozer, Excavator, Wheel loader, Grader, and other Earth-moving equipment.
Good knowledge of operating and maintaining various equipment brands, including CAT, Shantui, Howo, Sino Trucks, Sany, Liugong, SEM, and MAN Diesel.
Perform regular diagnostics and repair of Earth-moving machinery and equipment including trailers, bulldozers, excavator, dumper and other equipment.
Use diagnostics tools and equipment to identify mechanical faults and determine appropriate repair methods.
Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules to ensure the longevity and reliability of all machinery and equipment.
Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency and reliability of machinery and workshop processes.
Assist in the installation and commissioning of new machinery and equipment, ensuring they meet operational requirements.
Ensure all activities in the workshop comply with health and safety regulations. Promote a safety-first culture.
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree or HND in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
Minimum of 10 years of experience in a similar role, with at least 5 years as a workshop lead in the mining/construction sector or a related industry
Hands-on experience with CAT, Shantui, Howo, Sino Trucks, Sany, Liugong, SEM, and MAN Diesel equipment
Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing earthmoving machinery
Familiarity with hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems
Knowledge of welding, fabrication, and machining processes
Competency in using computer-based maintenance management systems (CMMS)
Strong technical skills, including AI integration and collaboration
Ability to leverage data analysis and AI for process optimization
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Excellent communication and leadership abilities
Attention to detail and commitment to quality
Added Advantage:
Experience working with a mining company
Familiarity with ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles and implementation.
