About the Role
You will lead a distributed team of cloud engineers responsible for ensuring our Google Cloud Platform (GCP) infrastructure is secure, scalable, and resilient — powering critical financial services and high-volume payment systems.
This role combines hands-on technical leadership with strategic oversight. You’ll work closely with backend, frontend, security, and SRE teams to strengthen our cloud foundations, optimize CI/CD processes, and ensure world-class uptime, compliance, and observability.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy:
Lead and mentor the Cloud Engineering team across multiple time zones.
Define and execute Moniepoint’s cloud infrastructure roadmap aligned with business and engineering goals.
Establish best practices for automation, security, observability, and GitOps-driven operations.
Collaborate with the CTO, Engineering Managers, and Security teams on scaling strategies, cost management, and reliability objectives.
Cloud Infrastructure & Automation:
Architect and manage infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) using Terraform and GitOps principles.
Maintain and scale Kubernetes (GKE) clusters supporting Java/Spring-based microservices.
Build and optimize CI/CD pipelines with GitLab, Jenkins, Harness, and ArgoCD.
Integrate and enforce code quality through SonarQube and automated security scans.
Implement automated testing, deployment, and rollback mechanisms across environments.
Monitoring, Reliability & Operations:
Maintain platform observability using New Relic, Stackdriver, and custom dashboards.
Oversee incident response and escalation processes with PagerDuty, ensuring continuous availability.
Define and meet SLOs/SLAs aligned with business-critical systems (e.g., ≥99.99% uptime).
Lead disaster recovery (DR) and business continuity initiatives, ensuring compliance with RTO/RPO targets.
Security, Compliance & Governance:
Enforce IAM, network, and data protection standards within GCP.
Partner with Compliance and Security to uphold FCA, ISO 27001, and SOC 2 requirements.
Ensure end-to-end encryption, secret management (Vault), and secure access controls.
Champion continuous improvement in DevSecOps and cloud governance practices.
Cost Management & Optimization:
Monitor and optimize GCP spend across compute, storage, and database workloads.
Introduce automation and reporting for cost visibility and anomaly detection.
Collaborate with Finance and Product teams to forecast and manage cloud budgets.
Monitoring & Alerting: New Relic, Stackdriver, PagerDuty
Code Quality: SonarQube
Programming & Runtime: Java, Spring Boot, Python, Bash
Databases: Google Cloud Spanner, Cloud SQL
Version Control & Collaboration: GitLab
Required Skills & Experience
8+ years of experience in cloud or infrastructure engineering, with 3+ years in a leadership role.
Deep expertise in GCP architecture, Kubernetes, and Terraform.
Proven success managing CI/CD pipelines and GitOps workflows in production.
Strong background in networking, systems reliability, and security fundamentals.
Experience operating and scaling high-availability fintech or payment platforms.
Solid understanding of observability, incident management, and SRE practices.
Familiarity with compliance frameworks relevant to regulated financial institutions.
Preferred Qualifications:
GCP Professional Cloud Architect or Cloud DevOps Engineer certification.
Experience with distributed databases (e.g., Cloud Spanner).
Exposure to ISO 27001 audits or FCA-regulated environments.
Understanding of microservice-based architecture (Java/Spring) at scale.
Soft Skills:
Strong leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Analytical, structured, and proactive problem-solving mindset.
