Position Overview
The Shift Security Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of personnel, materials, assets, and property within a steel plant or mining operation during their assigned shift.
This role involves monitoring critical areas, managing access control, conducting patrols, responding to incidents, and enforcing safety/security procedures in a high-risk industrial environment.
Key Responsibilities
Access Control & Gate Management:
Monitor entry/exit of employees, contractors, and vehicles.
Verify ID cards, gate passes, material movement permits (MMP), and visitor pass.
Ensure proper checking of inbound/outbound trucks and material dispatch.
Prevent unauthorized entry into restricted operational zones.
Surveillance & Patrol Duties:
Conduct regular foot and vehicle patrols in plant zones, mines, perimeter areas, and sensitive installations.
Monitor CCTV cameras, control room alarms, and detect abnormalities.
Ensure security of explosive stores, fuel depots, equipment yards, and electrical substations.
Incident & Emergency Response:
Respond promptly to alarms, fire incidents, accidents, or security breaches.
Assist in evacuation procedures and coordinate with Fire & Safety teams.
Document and report all incidents through shift logs and incident reports.
Asset & Material Security:
Prevent theft, pilferage, and illegal transportation of scrap, raw materials, finished goods, and mining materials.
Ensure sealing/locking of loaded trucks and validate dispatch documentation.
Conduct surprise checks on isolated and high-value areas (e.g., stores, warehouses, weighbridges).
Compliance & Enforcement:
Ensure compliance with company security policies, safety protocols, and statutory regulations.
Enforce PPE requirements during entry and work areas.
Monitor contractor workforce movement and adherence to rules.
2 - 5 years experience in industrial, plant, or mining security preferred.
Basic knowledge of CCTV operations, firefighting equipment, and emergency protocols.
Age – Below 50 years / Medically fit.
Fluent English communication skills.
Corporate Security and first aid certification.
Skills & Competencies:
Strong observation and surveillance skills.
Good communication & report writing.
Ability to work under pressure and respond to emergencies.
Physically fit with high alertness
Familiarity with industrial safety norms
Basic computer/CCTV operation skills
Working Conditions:
Rotational shifts (including nights).
Exposure to industrial and outdoor mining environments.
Requires physical activity (patrolling, responding to incidents).
Interaction with Army , MOPOL , NSCDC and local police.
