Yobe State University is located in Damaturu, Yobe State, Nigeria, through a noble idea of establishing a state University in Damaturu, which was recommended to the state government by the committee on a blueprint for the educational development of Yobe State. Its sub-committee on higher education submitted the report stating the desirability of a university in Yobe.
Following the NUC’s encouragement of state and private organization to establish viable universities, and the rapid growth of post-primary and tertiary institutions in the state became obvious that a large number of potential university candidates would emerge seeking admission into the university in Yobe. The state, under the leadership of His Excellency Governor Bukar Abba Ibrahim, decided to establish a university named Bukar Abba Ibrahim University and immediately constituted the planning committee with Professor Muhammad Nur Alkali as Chairman. The committee started to plan the take-off of the university in January 2007.
In accordance with the provisions of the Laws of the University, the Governing Council invites applications from interested and qualified candidates with experience in university administration, to fill the position below:

Description
The Vice-Chancellor is the Chief Executive and Academic Officer of the University.
He/she is responsible for the academic, physical and infrastructural development of the University through proper utilization of resources of the University.
The Vice-Chancellor ensures not only high-level academic and moral discipline, but also adequate welfare for staff and students as well as peace, stability, and good governance in the University.
In addition, the Vice-Chancellor establishes good relations with external agencies and organisations both national and international, and attracts resources for the University.
The Candidate
The Candidate for the post of the Vice-Chancellor should be of impeccable character, and a good manager of human and material resources.
Specifically, the candidate should:
Have spent not less than ten (10) years uninterrupted service of teaching and research in public university since his/her first appointment and have held key administrative position as Head of Department, Dean, Provost or Deputy Vice-Chancellor.
Be a scholar of the rank of Professor with the ability to provide academic and administrative leadership for the University.
Have a good understanding of the vision and mission of the University.
Be able to attract research grants and complimentary funds from local and international agencies, and further uplift the academic status of the University.
Possess personal integrity in the management of funds and be able to deploy financial resources as appropriate in the context of the University's strategic plan.
Demonstrate interpersonal and team building skills, and possess the ability to build bridges between staff, students and members of the University, Community and other stakeholders.
Have a demonstrable ability to establish and maintain partnership with local and international organizations as well as government agencies.
Be an individual who, judging from his/her track records, is likely to command respect as well as the loyalty of the members of staff and University Community.
Be able to demonstrate the ability to attract, motivate and retain highly skilled and talented teaching and non-teaching staff.
Be able to exhibit entrepreneurial drive and ability to attract extra-statutory funds and mobilise other resources for the development of the University.
Be in a position to ensure the enforcement of the University's laws and regulations.
Be Information and Technology proficient and be committed to the development of ICT into the University programmes and services.
Be of excellent physical and mental health.
Age of Applicants:
Eligible candidates should not be more than sixty- five (65) years old at the time of assumption of office.
Conditions of Service
Conditions of service are as applicable to the post of Vice-Chancellor in the University regulations as may be determined by the Yobe State Government from time to time.
Tenure of Office:
The Vice-Chancellor shall hold office for a single term of five (5) years.
